space is not cold, it's just void of atoms, and as such, void of the vibrations, vibrations needed to produce temperature change, which is the thing that causes the feeling of warm or cold.

Space is not hot or cold – there is no air… So – depends you are under the sun light or in a shadow and still – in space your spacesuit is not design to make you hot, but as cooler. So – go on from this point 🙂

3:30 you don’t need to say degrees Kelvin. In fact it’s never degrees Kelvin as it’s an absolute scale and fundamental unit unlike Celsius and Fahrenheit which are relative units.

isn’t it already warm in some areas of space though?… like if the sun is shining on you and you’re close enough to it… cuz for example Mercury has no atmosphere and it still gets really hot on the side facing the sun… meaning space is only cold when you’re far enough away from a star

Space really isn’t cold or hot. It really depends based on where you are. If you’re in low earth orbit on the day side of the earth, space would actually be warm because the sun’s radiation isn’t blocked by any air unlike how it is on earth. If you’re doing a spacewalk on the night side of earth, it would be extremely cold because there is no sun and there isn’t any atmosphere to trap heat. It’s the same exact reason why mercury has extremely hot days yet very cold nights. In fact, the EVA spacesuits that NASA uses have cooling garments to keep the astronauts cool when doing spacewalks.

I like the episode of Dr Who where the doctor knew he wasn't in the real world since he was near a star that was burning cold instead of hot. But what would it be like if all of space was hot instead of cold and stars were burning cold instead of hot meaning too close and you'd freeze and too far you'd burn? Where would the goldilocks zone be then? Closer or further than currently?
