Youāre not only teaching to white people, Iām a black woman from Brazil that moved to US 9 years ago and didnāt quite reach an understanding about certain aspects that you made me understand. Since I wasnāt born here I donāt have all the references and cultural American baggage to get the deep meaning . Although my cultural baggage relates a lot with the experience here, is not quite the same

Im wondering if minstrel shows did something to suppress fear in white people of freed slaves? Like it went from fear of an enemy within taking revenge on you to seeing them as goofballs you can laugh at. Just a thought.

First time watching this video and I noticed you did not mention that minstrel shows were also attended by Black audience members. I think there is a difference between a white performer vs. a Black performer in Black face (e.g. Bert Williams).

I've now finally seen the movie myself. It was difficult to find but it was uploaded on a site called Effed Up Movies. Even after watching this video, there were things that felt shocking. Yeah, has aged really well sadly.
Also as trans it it felt so sad when Jada's character refused to call her brother by his proper name. The actor playing Big Blak Africa nailed it.

This also shows well how we as white people have to realize that there is quite literally no way to be honest about wanting to combat racism and white supremacy while simultaneously not criticizing the capitalist system we live in. You can't spend money as a white person and think it divorced from white supremacy because that is the whole foundation of the system that dollar exists in. It bleeds into the very fabric of economic decision making.
