Barnyard Commandos were the result of a very talented artist and extremely fortuitous timing. Despite a budget and a the buzz from Toy Fair, however, Barnyard Commandos failed to connect.
Add on a partially lost animated series and a Barnyard Commandos Burger King promo.

The full series aired in upstate New York at 5:30. When it went off we got on the bus for school. Do not remember anything from it except pig Latin. Memory is weird

The preferred term for anthropomorphic animals with weird muscles is "abnimal". Just wanted to keep you up to date with the proper terms.

Oh my GOD! for decades I have been trying to find this show, I always thought it was called combat pigs. Couldn't find anything ever. Thank you SO MUCH for this

Perhaps it was because I was a little older and was just a year or two away from becoming a jaded and cynical teenager, but I never got into Barnyard Commandos. As pointed out in the book by Hal Erickson, the lack of well-defined characters and a solid story were also big reasons I didn't get into it, and even at that age I could tell they were essentially trying to reproduce the success of TMNT, and I didn't care for that, as the Turtles were sacred to me at the time and anyone trying to copy them in any way were immediately dismissed as trash in my young mind. I never bought the toys and I was largely indifferent when the show was discontinued. Thanks for the fun video and stay safe out there!

As a child, I believed that the Barnyard Commandos should have included multiple factions based on various types of livestock, such as a chicken faction. Even at a young age, I thought that divisions like pigs versus chickens or pigs versus cows would have been more logical than rams versus pigs.

Iwatched the cartoon, but never had any of the toys because they reminded me of the toys like Wild West C.O.W.boys of Moo Mesa.

You aren’t wrong. I definitely don’t remember them.

June 12, 2026 at 3:34 am
I remember these! They vaguely interested me, much like Food Fighters, because of the well-detailed toys, though admittedly since they couldn't DO STUFF, play was limited. It's basically a big rubber animal toy with some detailed war gear you can put on it. And yeah, the story was super-dumb and made no sense, and like… kids don't care about playing sheep and pigs. Those might have been the worse two animals they could have chosen.

Imagine if this was given a full reboot and incorporated additional factions. Two possible ideas, chickens and ducks.
-Chaos Legion of Unhinged Combative and Keen Sentries (C.L.U.C.K.S.)
-Quirky Unified Agents for Calamity Kinetic Squad (Q.U.A.C.K.S.)

This is why I appreciate Secret Galaxy, just exposing me to things I've NEVER heard of before. And I was born in the early 90s! I would have loved this. It's my level of ridiculous, the names alone LOL

All I remember is using one of these as a bath toy as a kid. No small pieces that could flush down the drain, and squeezy like a rubber duck. Didn't squeak though.

I had no idea this had a cartoon. I remember the toys having that iconic Playmates quality, but being static figures with clip-on armor didn't really interest me.

While most of my childhood toys are long gone, it’s surreal to be watching this video while looking at my Sergeant Wooly Pullover figure standing guard over my dining room. Somehow, he’s survived all this time and all those moves from one house to another

Sgt. Wooly Pullover is still one of my favorite toys since my childhood

What happened to the level of creativity that was the 80s and early 90s toy lines? I remember all of these toys, had my parents buy them, and still have left over pieces today. The zaniness of these concepts shows our lack of imaginative play in the toy aisles of so many stores.
