He Killed Her Voice. She Killed His Band.

Guitar Meets Science | June 11, 2026

The Breeders Story. This week, we delve into the explosive rise and chaotic collapse of The Breeders, the 90s alt-rock band that started as a middle finger to a control-freak frontman and ended in a hotel toilet full of heroin. Kim Deal spent years standing in the back of the Pixies playing bass while Black Francis ran everything — until she snapped, recruited her barely-guitar-playing twin sister Kelley, and accidentally wrote “Cannonball,” the dirtiest, catchiest song of the summer of 1993. What followed was a full Lollapalooza-sized explosion: magazine covers, Letterman, and tens of thousands of fans who had no idea the whole thing was about to unravel. We’ll dig into what happened to The Breeders after “Last Splash,” how Kelley Deal’s heroin habit clogged a toilet and killed the momentum, and why Kim Deal kept crawling back to the Pixies even after she didn’t need them anymore. If you ever wondered what happened to The Breeders after that one perfect summer, here’s your answer. Kindly like and subscribe – it really helps this channel a lot. I do appreciate it!

This VST plugin, The Stereo Sound Extractor, is BADASS -I coded it up from over 10 year’s hard research. It won awards. Now you can own it for the paltry sum of $29. Yup, I’m basically giving it away: https://burninguitfiddle.gumroad.com/l/rbiuu

I had a thing for all these rock chicks in the 90’s lol. The chick from elastica, Kim and Kelly, veruca salt, Mazzy Star chick, D’Arcy, a lot of them minus Courtney Love. Hey it was middle school and early High School lol! Great video again. Remember when this was THE Buzzcut on MTV!

I got to see them couple times in Austin, it was excellent as always, extremely high energy band, the last time there was a lesbian gang fight on the floor, it was nuts, but a great show

Dude. You have absolutely one of THE BEST channels on YouTube! I love your storytelling because you just come across as if you were a personal friend and were just drinking beer and discussing music. No flash. No A.I. Just a chill dude who seems to love music and loves talking about music as much as I do. A zillion times cooler than Professor Of Rock, even!

I'm so glad I stumbled onto your channel. I hope you keep being just as you are and keep talking about music with a real genuineness!

Last Splash was my coming of age album – 1993 I was 15 going on to 16. Saw them in January 1994 when they came through Australia. One of the most memorable times of my life back then.

After listening to a few songs by them for the first time, their songs sounds like a rough draft OF a song. The bass and drums are in the forefront of the mix while the vocals are mixed in the backround to mask a seriously underdeveloped vocal part. Not to bash. I love listening to rough drafts of songs. But mostly from fully developed songs.

This is the 3rd time I've watched a video about a band I couldn't care less about (Smashing Pumpkins and Hootie and the Blowfish) and still enjoyed the heck out of it. Love this guy. Love his style. Love his videos. I'm glad I stumbled across this channel.
