Since there are probaby a lot of tinnitus suffers here, I’m curious if anyone can change the volume or frequency of their tinnitus in any reliable way. I noticed that mine would change frequency (I think…🤔 maybe volume???) sometimes when I was chewing, or biting down on my left side. Finding that a little interesting I went in search of other pysical methods of affecting the sound. Opening my jaw all the way seems to have a slight affect, but the most reliable is pressing on my left temple (slightly above and in front of my pinna) it markedly increases both the volume and the frequency.
I’ve always thought that I had tinnitus equally in both ears, but this “left side only” phenomenon of affecting the sound makes me less certain that my tinnitus is actually bilateral. I’ve begun to place the source of the sound a bit up and to the left of my head. It’s kind of like using a quadraphonic fader to move the source ever so slightly to my left. It’s not “from the left” it’s more like it’s a little left of center. I’d place it right above my left ear.
Anyway… I just wanted some feedback from other tinnitus sufferers to see if they have any similar experiences.

There's another usual cause for tinnitus and it's a tight neck. Usually it comes from stress, but you can get rid of that tinnitus with a self-massage to the neck (if it's not to bad) or going to a physiotherapist.

IV Ketamine treatments couldn't be tested with pure controls because people needed to think they were being treated. They had to do a saline IV. It reshaped the definition of "control."

how about a general practitioner that checks your hearing? Like a Designated FAA doctor for the medical certificate. Do you really have to go to a Audiologist for a general hearing test? NO, the GP that is trained can check for hearing loss and then send you to a audiologist if needed. They have the same red and blue headset audiogram. Why do we have to go to specialist for everything today?

No hearing aid can ever prevent more hearing loss. The only control will thing you can do to prevent hearing loss is to wear hearing protection more often.

I have recently graduated in molecular neuroscience with a specialization in auditory neuroscience and Im happy to see a credible and critical outlet like your channel talk about these topics. One of the projects I worked on during my degree was a study into objectively diagnosing tinnitus using a certain EEG paradigm. If you really get into the weeds of it it is absolutely baffling how little we understand and are even able to research things like tinnitus since we can't even measure it properly to be reliably assessed in any form of clinical trial.
I read somewhere once that vision loss cuts you off from the world and hearing loss cuts you off from people (its one of the major predictors for developing dementia too) and Im hoping that it gets a lot more attention in the future.

Woe see I actually need hearing aids and have em . If I break em I gotta cough up 4400 . Cos my country (Ireland) won't cover it for free after collage…. Cool

Tinnitus can be caused by persistent yet faint sounds. If you can eliminate the source, it may go away, but can take a long time. Ventilation is a common offender. Sadly difficult to get rid of in cites.

My friend's wife was an audiologist. An inside look to that whole end of the business, and knowledge of what a precise tiny tech object can be built for, was amazing.

I am a musician and have tinnitus but not hearing loss. I am moderately fond of my tinnitus, its a very high D. I now have a built in tuning fork.

– Therefore, to compensate for your reduced sensitivity to sounds, we are going to INCREASE THE LOUDNESS OF THE SOUNDS ENTERING YOUR EARS

I have hearing damage. I am missing the frequencies that women and children have more of when they speak. After seeing the 4k price tag for the hearing aid I told my wife the option was, spend for 4k, or, You can speak up. She has chosen to speak up

praise be i have extremely low register range.. maybe ive had some damage to the ultra high but my depth goes so low it doesnt TEND to matter.

I was always late to class , and I was late finding this channel, even though you would think it would have been suggested by the alg. god long ago, lol. I am in to everything, ususlly saying if something has a wire, bolt, or wheel, Ill mess with it, lol, and Ben you are one of my fav people to watch now. Common sense is so hard to find, and asking questions seems to be a no no for everyone claiming to have a brain, they just do or believe whatever they're told, especially if it makes NO sense, popularity and conformity are top priority. I never fit in so I can't do either, what I'm told or fit in, very well, so I'm usually on the outside looking in asking why everyone is doing stupid sh^t without asking simple questions, lmao Long story shortened, Ben you're a good guy in a world full of imbeciles and I would really enjoy talking tech stuff with you if we were neighbors, hell I would enjoy having you as a neighbor as the world needs more guy's like yourself, and our chickens wouldn't bother one another lol I saw your sit down with Beato and it made me want to sit down and pick your brain even more, you're a smart man to say the least, but genius would probably fit better. Thank you for the in depth information you spend tons of time putting together, it is very much appreciated by myself and many others I have NO doubt, and your work is much needed in today's world. My daughter has a hearing loss like someone who is old. She has a hearing loss in both ears because of antibiotics. It sucks that insurance doesn't pay for hearing aids. She is 30 years old and its bs!!!!

Hi Benn, I have hearing loss because the tiny hairs in my ear didn’t grow properly. I have had hearing aids since I was 18 months old, and they’ve gotten pretty cool over the last few years. I used to have FM radios with receivers i would slip onto my hearing aids then my teachers would wear a microphone or set it on the cart that the giant tv was strapped onto. I’ve recently been on a binge of your videos and I really really enjoy your exploration into these niche topics that deserve attention but most people turn cheek too.

I'm curious how much hearing loss is "PRODUCED" via HearN Aids that FEEDBACK into Seniors earZ and they just tune that FREQ out ALLTOGETHER til a relative or myself OVER my gf's PHONE, 12 feet away!!, tell them "HEY turn it down its FEEDING BACK !!!!!

I was a musician and a machinist and I was always careless about hearing protection. So now that I'm getting old… Nothing. No noticeable hearing loss. I don't know why, but I'll take it.

Deaf from one ear, gigantic tinnitus on that side, but the brain learned to ignore it pretty quickly, seeing this video actually made me "hear" it for the first time in years 😂
Which is so weird, like, the brain creates a sound to fill in missing frequencies, then learns how to ignore the outcome of its own making 😂

I actually signed up for a thing that was supposed to be a free trial or free whatever and just from talking to them over the phone I could tell it was a scam. It really felt like a timeshare seminar.

I have a "narrow ear canal" on my right ear, its a birth defect, and it is so narrow infact, i have like 20-30% hearing pn my right side, then I have quite severe tinnitus on my left side, because windows 11 decoded to put my headphones (that i use an amp for) to 100% volume…
