How My Uncle’s Con Is Fully Exposed: Mary Trump | The Daily Beast Podcast

The Daily Beast | June 8, 2026

Mary Trump returns to the Daily Beast Podcast on the week of her uncle Donald’s 80th birthday to deliver one of her starkest assessments yet of a president she says is facing pressures unlike anything in his life. Drawing on her perspective as both a clinical psychologist and a member of the Trump family, Mary argues that Donald Trump is struggling to maintain control of the narrative as political setbacks, growing criticism, and the fallout from his decision to strike Iran begin to converge. She breaks down what she sees as signs of mounting instability, reflects on the family dynamics that shaped him, examines his increasingly isolated position inside the White House, and explains why she believes some of the myths that have sustained him for decades are now colliding with reality. From foreign policy and political loyalty to personal humiliation and family relationships, Mary offers an unfiltered look at the forces she believes are defining one of the most consequential moments of Trump’s presidency.

Don't forget, Don Jr is named DONALD TRUMP. This means that his father, as he nears his end, may be trying to keep from being replaced, in his warped mind.
He might feel intense hatred for his son, at this point.

Greetings from Australia. Trump's planned $1.5 billion high-rise project on the Gold Coast was cancelled due to the Trump brand being so toxic to Australians.

20:30 when he jumped at the sound of rain hitting the barn he was interviewing in.. I remembered what Mary said that he’s not always aware. I believe in this recent interview although the host announced two breaks for rain and sound concerns.. I truly believe there was way more. He complains and whine about a lot of unnecessary ass shit.

Mary Trump is fearless because she is trained, experienced and author active. She outspoken and perfectly placed. Many, many authorities have little skill, training* or foresight. Yet, MAGAs DONT recognise skills, training and abilities. DONT they realise DJT is a failed Real Estate Agent, conman and moron.

15:58 I think she’s right about losing control and he’s failing bc there is no way if he thought he was winning would he agree to redo another interview that he abruptly ended if didn’t. I’ve been honed in on distressing abusive behavior of this man years ago.

Y'all forgot to mention that the wrestling arena is to appeal to the lower classes of uneducated people who enjoy physical abuse to others. Mostly, I think, rural people and those who never learned to think for themselves. Never studied philosophy or didn't pay attention in history classes or can't even speak properly and God forbid write much at all! Does anyone agree?

The consequences of electing a malignant narcissist to POTUS, and electing a corrupted majority in Congress, will be with us for the next 200 years. We have alienated our allies, our dearest of friends who go back 250 years in some cases. This is no "flash in the pan". We won't impress anyone with mere promises, when the rest of the world knows those promises are only good for, maybe, eight years, and most likely four. Not a good "look."

I despise trump, but about going to his idiot kid’s wedding – are they going to land that 747 on some dinky island, plus all the security? If his boneheaded kid actually wanted him to attend, wouldn’t he have arranged it better?😢

This is a critical situation. Your grandfather was not President of the USA. He didn’t have access to the nuclear codes. He harmed his “renters”. Your uncle is hurting The World.

When people say that Trump is an "Idiot, stupid, is a terrible businessman" then why does he have at least one billion dollars? How many of you out there have one billion dollars in the bank? How many of you out there have become POTUS twice? He is obviously not stupid. Stop calling him stupid. Is Mary trump a billionaire? Nope. Has she been the POTUS twice? Nope. Haters are gonna hate. Trump might seem insane to most people. But he has a billion dollars in cash, he is POTUS twice. Let us see YOU DO THAT. I never voted for Trump. HOWEVER, he obviously hit a nerve with a large portion of the American populace. And not just White Folk. Trump will probably die soon. Maybe before 2028. But his message will carry on, for at least 20 years. There is obviously a Conservative backlash to the 1970s & 1980s. Gen X is angry, and Charlotte, NC is maybe an epicenter of this. Charlotte was the 1st to outlaw busing.

Her analysis would be sine qua non, not herself. If you are trying to say she is the definitive best and has no equal, you are looking for the Latin phrase sine pari (without equal), or the French phrase sans pareil (without parallel). Alternatively, you can use the Latin phrase nulli secundus (second to none). Because sine qua non translates literally to "without which not", it must function as a noun identifying an indispensable ingredient or condition. Thank you.

I am less concerned about Trump and more concerned about how stupid Americans are. We have a low IQ population that elected this con man. If you are horrified by Donald Trump, then you should be even more horrified to realize that Trump is smarter than almost the entire Republican party. Now there are those in the GOP that are using him, but the vast majority of GOP voters are less intelligent than Trump. Let that sink in and really think about where we are headed. The next Trump will be worse.

Again, thank you for inviting Mary as a commentator. Such insight! From political, 2 psychological standpoint to & to a familiar, familiarity The takes you both expound, on all of it are informative and, may I say, pithy? 😂😊

Mary Trump has her own issues being a Trump. Her status as an "acclaimed'" psychologist is about as believable as Trump's reputation as a deal maker. She sounds sometimes like she has him well figured out but there are many comments where it is obvious she didn't like his family and is using psychology to justify her own take on the matter.
It doesn't take courage to speak out. She gets to sell her books that would otherwise go unnoticed and unread. Both sides of the Trump family evidently know how to milk fame for all it's worth. Trump worships fame above all else. Being famous is more important to him than having any skill or talent except to become famous. In some ways that is the modern way of life in corporate America. The image of the corporation is more important than the substance. For the last 20 years or so he made money selling his name. Now Mary can sell both his and her names.
