So much of the GOP's attitude towards anyone not straight can be explained by denial of their own gender identity. The self-loathing so often on display during debates over legislation aimed at the LGBTQIA+ community (my apologies if I've forgotten something) is nothing more or less than jealousy that they cannot their lives the way they really want, whether it's their religious or cultural bigotry preventing them from accepting themselves.
