Before Smallville there was Superboy (1988), a show that ran in syndication for 4 seasons and 100 episodes featuring 2 different Superboys and 2 completely different Lex Luthors that was made by the same team that made the Superman movies starring Christopher Reeve.

I didn’t realize it was syndicated. I thought this was one of the Fox Networks early sjows.

I watched and enjoyed Superboy when it first aired and bought the comic books based on the show as well.
On another note, it's ironic that John Haymes Newton's ticket was 52 dollars!

The episode with Ron Ely as future Superman was great. Ron Ely made a damn good Superman.

Fun fact Gerard Christopher got the role of Clark Kent/Superman for Lois & Clark until producers saw he was Superboy. They didnt want someone who played the role already

I did not watch “Superboy” during it’s original run. In northern New Jersey it was aired by the New York City NBC affiliate. It was on at 1pm on Saturday’s so it was often preempted for sports. Later I think it moved to 7pm (maybe 7:30), which put it on against “Star Trek The Next Generation.” Also if sports ran long, once again it would be preempted.
I think I did see part of an episode, and thought it was targeted to younger audience.
However a few year’s go I found the series on Tubi, and started watching it out of curiosity. I enjoyed it enough to decide to watch the entire series. I got up to the 40th-somehting episode and then it gone from that service.

I really enjoyed the show. For the time and special effects they did. I was impressed by the show.

I remember as a kid watching a show called Superboy but that memory was eventually replaced by my memory of watching another show with superman as a boy and the 2 main things I remember about that show where that superman didn't know how to fly and that almost every substabce in that series could be made of kryptonite, even Gatorade. Also Kriptonite didn't make Superboy lose his powers but instead made everyone else get weird powers.

I remember watching these on a Saturday. But I can only remember bits and pieces of it. Luthor saying he drank a little acid to deepen his voice, Superboy trying to deflect an asteroid by ramming it but was flung back to Earth and got amnesia (the plot was repeated in Lois and Clark), Michael Des Barres playing a villain (I think it was a 2 part episode).

I watched this Superboy series on network syndication in the late 80's and early 90's when I lived in Washington D.C./Maryland and in the small town of South Carolina (Charleston). Later on I watched reruns of it in syndicated reruns on Comet.

I saw season 1 when it first aired. I didn't like it at first but I stuck with it. For some reason I didn't continue with season 2. I recently caught up with all episodes on Amazon Prime. I like its comic book style, but overall it was hard to take seriously. I'm glad Smallville was so much better.

Lol I had bought some of Gerard Christopher's VHSs lol. Fun fact Gerard Christopher actually auditioned and got the role of Superman in Lois and Clark until production realized he had played Superboy and told him you've already done this and let him go and cast Dean Cain instead.

2 interesting notes about the show are 1) That a season 2 episode was a backdoor pilot. Brimstone had a post Miami Vice Philip Michael Thomas as the title character, an alchemist helping Superboy battle one on Brimstone's own enemies. And 2) Christopher apparently auditioned for Lois & Clark. Technically getting the part before producers found out he technically already played the part as Superboy.

I was dying to watch this show growing up. When it finally started airing it was at like 6:30am on Saturday mornings, so it was a rare treat. Sadly no nostalgia from me as I could barely catch it.
