Despite not having a brain in the traditional sense, an experiment was conducted with Physarum polycephalum, a slime mold in 2010. The mold was on an agar coated plate with an outline of the Tokyo metropolitan area and small piles of oat flakes representing core areas of the city. The mold began to spread out to reach all the flakes all while creating a network of veins that was nearly identical to the map of the city's complex rail network. Recreating decades of urban planning and development in just 26 hours.This mold has no eyes and is a single-cell living organism that seems to physically defy what we classify as intelligent life. This mold has been observed displaying complex problem-solving and is being extensively studied. It is even used as a sort of living algorithm in computer science.
I just wanted to share someone fascinating that I read and saw videos about a long time ago.
