Women are still being burned at the stake today. In many countries today (including india, africa, ghana, papu new guiena etc) thousands of women are still accused of whichcraft and tortured, burned to death or killed in other ways because of it. Whichcraft accusations are fake but people believe them to be true.

If a woman is independent, outspoken, refuses sexual advances of a man, then she is falsely accused of whichcraft, tortured and burned to death even today. And natural disasters like unexplained or unexpected death of someone, damage to property or other misfortunes are still also blamed on women by people accusing them of being witches and causing harm/misfortune on others. Women who were accused of whichcraft in past were also accused because of these exact reasons. These women were horribly tortured and/or exiled or burned to death, and this is still happening even today.

Moreover, in the past and also today, 90% whichcraft accusations and murders related to whichcraft accusations happen to women because of misogyny and patriatchy. Misogyny and patriarchy literally burn women to death.

The women who are accused of whichcraft are forced to eat human poop, beaten horribly, paraded naked, lynched, get chiili paste rubbed in their eyes, in some places people hang them upside down over fire and torture them, some people even cutt off their body parts and sexually abuse them, these women are also forced to undergo horribly torturous "cleansing rituals". All of this is still happening today. These women get so physically and psychologically damaged that they can't even speak about it.

Whichcraft accusations are common even today. For example, in just one province of india (named "bihar") 75000 women are living under the threat of whichcraft accusations, and murders related to whichcraft accusations are among the top 10 reasons for murder in India even today. People tried to make whichcraft accusations illegal but government didn't accept that and didn't do anything about it.

And in ghana, torture and murder due to whichcraft accusations are so common that there are "whitch camps" where women who are tortured due to being accused of whichcraft take shelter (but most women who are accused of whichcraft can't even reach those shelters)
