Britain Still Has Conversion Therapists. Here’s Why.

I remember bath-house raids in Toronto, in the 80's. I was friends with a bar-owner who ran an establishment on the main gay strip in Toronto (and who served from a menu of 150 different martinis, all made from 6-7 shots of booze each, and all delicious) whose establishment was raided so many times by the cops that he finally just closed it down. He was culpable of the double 'crime' of having a Middle-Eastern (Lebanese) background, and being gay. And serving all-mighty delicious martini-shaped bowls of booze to primarily gay clientele. That was in the 90's. I remember the beatings delivered to gay men by boozed up bigots who would screech about "AIDS fukkers" (all while most likely loathing themselves for wanting D more than V).
I am so glad we're all past all th…. umm… we're not past all this, are we?

If I decide to transition I think I’d snap if a doctor or therapist grilled me relentlessly about “being sure”, it’s an issue I’ve struggled with for years and I still don’t know. I’m also not sure if my hesitancy is due to internalized homophobia from my upbringing or my doubts about “knowing how a woman feels”. (American btw)

Now do the tragedy unfolding in the US.

We should not focus on convincing cishets that killing us is bad "bc it also hurts them" or try and build a populist movement around it, because they will rather kill us anyway. They have historically thrown us under the bus and will continue doing so, only way forward is making sure we take enough of them down with us that they'll hesitate. Because this will not stop, ever

As a trans woman living in poverty, I have very little agency and autonomy. Having to trust in a system that's failing, and failed, to provide adequate care.
I think I should give up.

I understand that giving as many arguments against conversion practices as possible is needed in order to convince people who may not have a very strong opinion either way, and I understand that this video has to be careful with what it says especially about the individual people perpetrating these practices.

However, it is genuinely hard to listen to so much good will and benefit-of-the-doubt being extended to people who advocate for torture. If I said what should happen to these people, what we should do to them, my comment would probably be deleted. Possible harassment from randoms online is not even within the realm of what these people deserve.

To anyone who stumbles across this comment, remember: the people behind this, and all our other societal problems, have names and addresses.

I understand your criticism of the NHS but you're helping the right wing defund them, those vile creatures will use any avenue to fuck our lives whatever our orientation.

The "children may get locked onto a transitioning trajectory which may not be the natural trajectory so they need intervention by a doctor" is so sinister. So a child's "natural trajectory" is not what they want to do without any pressures, it's what the doctor assumes they should do and has to pressure/force them into doing through all kinds of interventions? Doesn't sound very natural to me
