Ke Huy Quan is going through a well-deserved career revival after his amazing Oscar-winning performance in Everything Everywhere All At Once – and now he’s a leading man in a never-before-seen genre where a mild-mannered guy is actually very good at fighting! Oh wait there have been a bunch of those movies? Oh well we still like Ke!

Love Hurts definitely raises some questions. Like why did this former assassin pick a new career that is super public-facing? Why did Rose choose Valentine’s Day to suddenly return? Why are only the innocent characters being brutally taken out? Who is Ariana DeBose’s agent and why do they hate her?

To answer all these questions and more, step inside Ryan George’s Pitch Meeting for Love Hurts!

One thing I hated most about the movie is that Ariana DeBose's character also had some narration parts in there as well. That, and the narration in general, and the dialogue, but the action was cool though 🙂

I saw the movie and I enjoyed it… though I liked Marvin's relationships with literally every other character in the movie than his ACTUAL love interest. He has more chemistry with his BOSS than with Rose, and you could see just how heartbroken he looked when his brother put on the boss's hat as a trophy. This was the most asexual, aromantic "romance" movie I've ever seen… but the FRIENDSHIPS were adorable, especially between the two goons.

Just started watching and in just the first few minutes I already see a huge problem: this takes place in Milwaukee (okay, cool!) around Valentine's Day (mid-February) yet the setting looks like a fresh spring day– biking to work, green grass in the yards, no one wearing a jacket, etc. Um, HELLO! This is February in WISCONSIN!! It should be 20 degrees outside and everything covered in snow and ice! What the hell?!?

This made me sooooo sad because I want both Key Hey Quan and Ariana DeBose to do well as they’re both very talented (plus, Ariana and I dropped out of the same college about 5 or 6 years apart 😂) but this movie just wasn’t it. It was rushed to get 2 people whom we wish to see succeed in the same film. And to give Marshawn a job 😂

I wondered why he didn’t kill Rose, and I figured that he knew she was framed. Never would have thought he loved her. Zero evidence of that.

Glad I'm not the only one who was bothered by how callous the movie was about killing off the super-noble guy who went to help his rival fight some gun-toting hitmen without a moment's hesitation, and barely gave more weight to the death of the man who helped the lead turn his life around and explicitly had a family, and whose memory the lead largely disregarded by the end.

Well now I know I've been pronouncing deus ex machina wrong for over twenty years. Thankfully, I don't pronounce it that way with confidence; I usually say it with a giant question mark there, like, "doose??? ex machina" but even given that, no one has ever once corrected me. So I've basically had plot device broccoli in my teeth for decades.

The most disgustingly disappointing thing about the movie is that they didn't figure out how to preserve his real estate agent career XD

I got to the second fight scene and…they're just not good. The fight scenes are littered with continuity errors and are cut up up about as much as your standard MCU movie fight scene, which, for a Kung Fu movie makes about as much sense as you think. But it's fine, the second fight scene cuts away in the middle to show the inside of a microwave where you can clearly see that they've done that seen a bunch of times, and they spend some time in the inside of a fridge for some reason. So…half the fight is off screen, anyway. Which is good, 'cause…I honestly was barely following the fight by that point.

Rose said hiding isn't living. You know what also isn't living? Our heroes boss and the rival real estate agent. All Rose had to do was call the Russians and watch the news – no reason to ruin our heroes life at all. A better ending: He apologizes to her for his mistake. And when she asked what mistake he would mention something he should have did years ago – and kills her.
