Thanks for 10K Subs Hangout!
We hit 10K subs a while ago, so I did a Google hangout to say thank you and answer questions. This is the edited version, I cut some questions if they were ones that I couldn’t really answer properly, or if the recording was too sketchy, or if I’d answered them elsewhere before. Thanks to everyone who turned up!
Discussion includes the role of physics, the ethics of owning a pet, absurdism, YouTube “fame”, travel, philosophy A-level and my favourite novel!

Awesome . Congrats on the 10k subs .Video request . How about you make a video about misanthropy and nihilism (if you haven't already). They're two subjects I think are very misunderstood and it would be interesting to get your take on it.

10,000 is just a start. You deserve 10,000,000.
School is a bit off for me. But in time I hope to major in philosophy.
In the mean time its your videos that remind me of why I love the field so much. So thank you. Thank you so much.

This truly is the only channel of it's kind. I remember when i first started to get into philosophy, and i had spent so long pouring over different Reddit posts, and videos that just addressed a single part of a subject. Then I thought "I wonder if there is a legitimate Channel that focuses on Philosophical concepts that are both Age old, and modern topics." It's safe to say that after i typed in the YouTube search bar "philosophy Channels" I instantly saw Philosophy Tube. I clicked on the channel and watched your video on "Moral Luck." After that video, and hitting subscribe, I knew that this is Just what i was looking for. Haven't missed a video since. Just want to say that your work has really helped me both intellectually and emotionally/ "spiritually." I have found my bliss, and thanks to you and a well contributing person, Jason Silva, I know exactly what i want to do with my life. Thanks for your insight and work Olly!

Congrats on getting to 10K! I love the channel. Its a great opportunity for me to learn about areas of philosophy I didn't get to study myself, and a great chance to see those I did study in a new light.

The map anaolgy is actually very good. Physics deals with models that simplify the world enough to allow us to get a clear picture of it. If you take a map, any child can see that that's not what the world really looks like, but as long as it helps you to get from point A to point B it's a good map. And different maps have different purposes. Some show roads, some show subway stations and others national and regional borders, always trying to highlight a certain aspect.
A model used in physics also tries to highlight such an aspect. If you're trying to calculate whether a bridge can carry a certain load, the bridges electrical properties are not very important and almost never considered in the model. The model of the world will always attempt to answer a certain question and any superfluous information that doesn't help with answering that question is ignored.

Love this channel, you deserve the subs!
I actually bought "the myth of Sisyfus" because absurdism seemed interesting to me. Just started, but it's quite an interesting read so far

It's great to see that so many people share this passion for philosophy and although it couldn't be there for the little gathering you did there I have a question:
The last few weeks I had some time off from uni so I got to play some games ("the last of us" to name an example) and I began to wonder if there are thoughts in philosophical papers about the ethics of video games. I think it's an important question especially these days were virtual reality becomes more and more a part of our "reality". Is violence in video games ethical? Or is the thought of being violent already unethical?
Do you have any thoughts on that?:)
