Life And Death of Keith Moon

Weird History | March 29, 2026

On September 7th, 1978, Keith Moon, the legendary hard-partying drummer of The Who, was found dead in his London apartment. In the end, his life was as much defined by his self-destructive behavior and addictions as it was for his unique style of drumming.

So it was Moon who screwed up the pyrotechnic explosion on the Smothers Brothers show? I thought it was some stage hand. That explosion gave Townsend long-term tinnitus!

I learned to play listening to Moon and played like him. In our HS band, I was jamming with just the lead guitar player one day, and he got mad at me for not just playing 1-2-3-4 under him. I couldn't see any reason to just keep time, especially when there were just the two of us. He was frustrated with me.

My favorite song by The Who would have to be "Won't Get Fooled Again". That's such a memorable song which featured Keith Moon as well as all the other Who members at their best. It's just too bad that Keith Moon wasn't able to have a balance between a wild and cutting edge drummer to being a calm and peaceful person who could age gracefully. Well, maybe that was just his destiny; not to age gracefully. Rest in peace Keith, and I hope to meet you in the afterlife.

I read somewhere that the surviving members of The Who went to his funeral expecting him to pop out of his coffin, alive and well, and say "Haha! Fooled you all!" He was just that much of a prankster.

This narration sounds like one of those crime channel voices they use. No emotion or power . This narrator is not what we are accustomed to hearing.

That's not true she said she did cook for him once when they got home I believe and again before he went back to sleep his final time he had lamb with mint sauce that was his last meal

Honestly I feel bad for the narrator, the channel, and anyone who tries to sit in as a temporary fill in narrator. I don't think I've ever seen another channel that had such an iconic and recognizable voice (okay other than "diode gone wild")…. Makes it hard to take a break, increase upload schedule, and what not. It's not even like he's got that great of a voice it's just iconic for the channel and for some reason his voice is what got me watching their content in the first place. I don't know how to explain it because the content isn't that crazy over-the-top great or anything. I mean it's fine it's good stuff but something about his delivery I guess.

The only thing I've hated recently is the constant references to totally out-of-the-box pop culture references I every single video. That absolutely don't need to be there. I don't mean timeless funny pop culture references that will be remembered as trivia forever. I'm talkin about references to stupid stuff that nobody cares about that won't be remembered in a few years. I don't know why they keep putting stuff like that in videos. Specially when it's about like the Middle ages and history that has nothing to do with it

You LEFT THE MOST IMPORTANT THING OUT! Moon was untreated, bipolar, (Manic-depressive) Which explained almost all of his atrocious behavior far more than drugs which did make it worse. Hotels quit having them stay because he would flush M80's down the toilet doing 10's of thousands of dollars in damage to their pipes.

What's also weird is all the people crying because of a different narrator. Sure the usual one is good – but don't all working folk deserve some days off/break periods?? Think, people, THINK…

Alice Cooper once said: "Of all the stories you have heard about Ozzy Osbourne, only 40% of them are true. Of all the stories you have heard about Keith Moon, 100% of them are true, and you've only heard 40% of them".

I wonder where he got the info that Ginger Baker sited Moon as an influence. From what I’ve read, Baker wasn’t in the slightest complimentary to either Moon or Bonham.
