Shane was absent during Napalm Death shows this summer. What was the reason actually? It was pretty weird seeing N.D. without Shane.

So cool to hear that Celtic Frost was such a huge influence!
Morbid Tales is my favorite recording ever!

There were WAY more bands in NWBHM than simply Priest and Maiden. Just like the American “thrash/speed/early death metal days” were waaaayyyyy more than just 4 bands (I mean, who played with the big 4 in San Fran? LA?…etc…).

My cousin was a teenager in the early 80s and said it was really exciting. He started with Zeppelin, Purple and Sabbath and then found Priest and Maiden when they came out. Then he heard Fight Fire with Fire by Metallica and his whole world changed – he went into extreme metal. Apparently it was a great time to be into underground metal as there was so much stuff going on in the UK at the time

When I was a teenager me and my best friend (now over 35 years of friendship) were on the hunt for music. Funny enough he followed the punk path and I got into metal, but listening to Shane talking about how his friends were punks made think just how fun it was to share music. Then bands like Napalm Death, Exploited, and way later stuff like Municipal Waste were a cool meeting point for us. Nowadays we still go to shows but when we get the chance to go a punk/metal gig together, we are just a couple of old guys who chose different musical paths but those paths further solidified our friendship. Thank you Shane and all those who made crossover possible!
