When Dave Matthews came out with "What Would You Say?" I thought it was Cameo. I still can't believe no one really talks about the similarity in their vocal style. Dave DID do Word Up live once, he gets it!!!

This is proof that Todd has never talked to a single Black person in his life. Cameo are not a one hit wonder lmao. Candy, Back & Forth, Talking Out the Side of Your Neck are all equally as big as Word Up. Their songs are on the GTA radio god sake!

Gguurrlll, IKYFL. This is blasphemous. Cameo? A one hit wonder? Revisionism at its best.

This video is 10 years old. I KNOW you see these comments. An apology and press correction is necessary at this point.

That assessment of Jam & Lewis with Janet Jackson makes me feel sad. I honestly think the sound they came out with around that period (and with SOS Band, Alexander O'Neal, Cherrelle, and New Edition) was some of the best that R&B has ever been, EVER. It just had a different type of appeal than 70s funk, and even other 80s funk.

The video just reinforces that there are 2 America's and Our version is not respected or valued until it "sells out" and does something "they" like…πŸ˜‚πŸ˜‚πŸ˜‚πŸ˜‚

Like some comments lead you to believe. There are "2 America's" and just because Pop or Mainstream doesn't recognize something Black America could respect adore amd recognize certain things amd Cameo is one of them! All the way from when they had 12 members with Sparkle I just want to be Shak your pants why have I lost you etc…WE BUMPED CAMEO since they dropped thoer first album…so I disagree with the term 1 Hit Wonder DRASTICALLY!!!!!

Cameo had a US number 2 "Loverboy" with Mariah Carey in 2001. While you could argue its a Mariah Carey hit, Cameo are credited as a feature. It counts also as a Cameo hit.

As a black man who grew up on Cameo, I can say the reason they didn't cross over earlier was because they may have been TOO BLACK for MTV. Even I was scared of them back in the day as their hard core funk weird over the top classic songs (Alligator Woman, etc….) weren't exactly AM radio fare
