What does living a longer, healthier, and more fulfilling life mean to you? How can you achieve that goal and does achieving that goal start the same for everyone? Per usual there is an abundance of information out that can be highly contradictory to each other and there is also a lot of narrative and research even showing results that are based on ulterior motives. Is it better to follow the research that says go vegetarian because animal proteins are not good for humans? Could it be better to stick with data that supports high quality proteins from an animal based diet? Dr. Gabrielle Lyon is joining Tom for another informative conversation about how transparent conversations, research and data need to be shared to better inform people about the best ways to protect muscle and thus achieve longer, healthier, more fulfilling high-quality lives. Being focused on strength and the functionality of muscles and what is required to maintain and build healthy muscle is a must for anyone thinking about longevity.

QUOTES:
“You’re existing in this incredibly delicate balance between what you eat, your insulin response to what you eat, and the muscle that you carry, and how much you use it.” Tom Bilyeu [2:44]
“The body thrives under activity, and whether you take a human, whether you take an animal, if you essentially domesticate them, and they are not training, they will lose muscle.” [6:50]
“You have to be very careful about how you want to age and this concept of longevity.” [23:16]
“Muscle is necessary, but not sufficient. You have to both have muscle and a diet that isn’t overwhelming your system.” Tom Bilyeu [27:29]
“Our expectation is now to lower the quality of evidence to be able to say, well, no plant and animal protein are the same. No, they’re not!” [31:01]
“Skeletal muscle is an organ system, just like the thyroid. It should be tested and treated as such.” [40:50]

I think she’s unconvincing. Stuck on defending her concept versus the human body and its ability to self regulate on perceived threat and survival. I agree while the body might prize muscle it will sacrifice it as a survival mechanism

it isnt that hard realy look up the best foods and eat them and you dont need so much protein just enough.
i been doing bb for over 20 years with a big break of 5 years un between i got back into it last years and got all musscle back in 3-4 months.
i just eat what has good stuf in it like veggies and mushrooms with broccoli or brussel sprouds or cauliflower as evening meal, beans noodles and soup with allot of veggies and noodless and bits of bread and i eat bread during the day sometimes carrots or banana's and wel just snacks.
i work out every 3rd or 4th day and am pretty jacked as a naturel.

Tom,I will never watch another one of your interviews. You have one of the best guests on your shows and you acted so terribly and embarrassing. You’re filled with pride you now think you know everything which you clearly don’t..how do you have the Gabrielle Lyons on your show and don’t let her talk the whole time??you are absolutely ridiculous dude for real.

Thanks Dr. Gabrielle Lyon for that very informative video. I have noticed the rise and fall of my skeletal muscle with resistance training and diet. I am able to understand from your discussion the coloration of training, diet and skeletal muscle growth.

It’s not anti animal dogma, it’s science Doc. No plant based eater said reduce protein. NO WAY! And she says there’s no transparency in the data, yet doesn’t site a peer reviewed study. You can get complete protein on a plant-based diet by combining foods like beans and rice or eating sources like quinoa, tofu, or chia seeds, which contain all essential amino acids.
She recently says tofu, legumes etc. so get her back on because she’s def changed her tune.

I love tom, but I have noticed how much he 1) interrupts often 2) keeps bringing his personal experiences to give examples and 3) keeps playing the “humble” card while bragging. This is “I am not that clever but” ….

Progressive resistance and workout volume builds muscle for me. Mostly plant but plenty of fish, chicken. Then there I am on YouTube doing 335,340 bench at almost 66 years old. Have done much more a few years back but its not age so much as drive that backs you off a bit. Have to find a way to maintain that fire. The reason most people stop is that its not just overnight. Its all the little week or monthly 2.5 to 5 lb gains that you thought were a let down, at year end are phenomenal gains in muscle and strength.

Rest, sleep and recovery are equally important to everything you discussed in this episode. I've been doing weight resistance training since I was 15 years old. Now at 63 I continue to see positive results from the weights and walking. The information we have now days compared to what was available when I was young regarding training and nutrition is a real blessing. The healthier we live does give us a higher quality of life as we age. My GGF was a perfect example of this. He ate small meals mostly out of his own garden and got a lot of exercise in the process. He live to be 105 years old without taking any prescription drugs.
