today we’re looking at the wild and whacky world of facebook marketplace, facebook marketplace is completely unhinged, and facebook/meta/zuckerberg are doing nothing to stop people from getting scammed on the marketplace, and it’s time i call it out. the user experience on facebook marketplace is awful, especially for buyers, and scams run rampant on the site on the buyer and seller side of things. no one is safe.

What absolutely drives me INSANE on FB marketplace (besides the canned “is this still available?”) is getting asked questions that are literally ALL listed on the description!!!! I swear it’s the marketplace for mouth breathers. Not a single brain cell to be found on there 😅

Man I feel lucky now, because my facebook marketplace interactions have been super uneventful. I helped my grandma sell a bunch of her stuff when she was moving, and the worst I got was people just being flaky and not showing up when they said they would. And on the buying side, the sellers have been pretty normal and haven't ripped me off. I'd say it must be where I live, but this was in two different US states. So 🤷‍♀

They don't even put any effort in the emails. Makes absolutely no sense whatsoever and their spelling mistakes are headache inducing. I think that bothers me more than the actual scam. LOL

Obviously someone is selling breast milk online and they are looking for the weirdos who want to buy breastfeeding milk online and milk them for money, price negotiable

As far as i know. Amazin does sell smaller packades in bulk. Mostly they get autioned off at warhouses and sould to secondhand re-sale store. With phyical locations (ex: the lical habbitat for humanity restor gets some. I got a yoga block for abt $4 from their but its always a toss up how their priced. A few months later a similar sized yoga block was $9)

[Context: habitat for humanity Re-stores are a kix of discount re-sale, and a thrift store targeted at home improvement. They also get a lot of "for display" iteams from department stores.]

Everyone with elderly parents or grandparents needs to be educating them about online scams. We all get targeted by scams at some point but people over 50 or 60 are targeted far more often and often aren’t savvy enough to spot signs that may be obvious to us. My wife and I both have elderly relatives who were scammed out of several thousand dollars. One of them lost over $20k and I’ve seen plenty of stories of entire retirement accounts being cleaned out by these scumbags. All of us need to be coaching our older family members on how to detect and avoid dangerous situations online. If someone in their 20’s or 30’s can potentially fall for it, someone in their 70’s has very little chance of spotting the signs if they aren’t careful.

I get adding “DM me” or whatnot at the end of the description just to be like “hey if you have questions beyond what is here feel free to message” but I despise those fake profiles or older people who just say “message for info”

I actually found someone selling Amazon return pallets on market place in my area and went and got one. Then I sold everything on marketplace pretty fast. The scams are real and more when it's expensive items. Just don't give out any personal info and only do cash. I know alot of people that got scammed that I wouldn't think would be.

I’ve found that selling tech on Facebook is the worst. When I was selling a phone, I had a man try to lure me into a motel room, I’ve had scammers ask me to mail them to the with $50 shipping fee (obviously fake), and had one man who promised to meet me but because I didn’t assure him I was STILL coming for the third time that day while I was working, he turned around and called me slurs on messenger. On the other hand, I sold a bunch of hamster tanks and had great experiences with all of the buyers.

I feel like the literal only reason Facebook would allow you to edit the date of your post is so scammers use Facebook instead of other places. Why the hell else would somebody ever need to edit the date of their post?

Facebook marketplace isn't such a mess in my country. I've sold a lot of hobby shit and for a while artisanal cheese from the veggi drawer of my fridge.
Only bought a shelf though. Saved $20 (converted), but I had to sand and paint it myself. I would've bet the big box place would have carried up the stairs for me. i hate the shelf. Looks like shit, but does the job
    2/5 buying 4/5 selling

Recently tried to sell an old guitar I didn't want on marketplace had it up for £150 (pretty decent for a second hand fender) someone messaged me offering £35? Piss off 😂
