A lot of these songs can be reinterpreted with a cello, violin, isolated guitar or base really well though.. Barbie Girl is 'Pure Garbage' sure.. but can be adapted really well with a Banjo, Traditional Instrument or "stripped naked" to form a really interesting rendition.

Fun Fact, the song that " plunge you into suicidal despondency" has been inducted into the Library of Congress this year (2024), along with The Cars self titled, Biggie's Ready to Die and Green Day's Dookie

This isn’t fully realized or fleshed out but I personally think it’s the opposite. I think it’s far smarter to see the good in everything and not nessicarly dismiss anything just because to you it’s “bad”. Now yes people probably trust critics and people who occasionally take a dump on certain albums, movies, songs, etc. Because it means when they do like something they know they ain’t lyin.

But in your case you are just talking about what you want to talk about as apposed to reviewing albums or whatever which I respect personally.

However back to my point I do feel it takes a lot more brain power or maturity to find the enjoyment in most things. Because chances are if it’s mainstream there is a hook or a riff that does sound good or catchy often times. It does not mean you like it fully or anything in fact you’d just rather listen to anything else but don’t lie that beat makes you want to dance, the Friday hook is just barley kind of catchy even though the amount of auto tune and effects on that voice is well I do t think I need to say anything about it.

But yeah you can find something you like if you just sit down with headphones and listen to it for something you like about it. You might not always find anything but with a-lot of things it’s possible.

There are also things that you never thought in a million years you’d give a try to but man I just got into slipknot! I always thought they were too heavy and not very melodic in their music but after checking them out further I realized that actually in some of their songs like psychosocial it goes back and forth between being hard core and not very melodic but the chorus is fantastic sounding with clean vocals. (Absolutely love that contrast btw my favourite song by them!)

I also love the lyrics and the music perfectly portrays the message of basically being done with society which is very relatable. And for me that’s the magic of that group is they have themes and music that strike me when I’m feeling well done with society or life and maybe pissed off. Helps me realize it and gets me through it.

Plus Slipknot is fun and something different, not necessarily the best metal band out there but they connect with the audience better than most which IMO is more important than quality of the sound and talent(although those things do matter but just because a contemporary can do those things better doesn’t mean they are better for you)

And that’s another thing of course you are not gonna like everything but you do t need to dismiss everything IMO. But there is a lot of stuff out there so I wouldn’t nessicarly listen to it all just be into what you are into.

And yes the opposite can be said for seeing something’s flaws even in the things you love. Yes that also takes a lot of maturity and brain power but I won’t get into those reasons because they are some horses and they all have already been beaten very brutally.

I’m just gonna close this by saying there’s nothing wrong with not liking things but I actually think it’s very good not to put too much dismissal into things you feel are “bad” because you might actually enjoy them on a certain kind of level.

And it’s all very subjective but challenging your self to see why maybe other people like it and what makes it sound good to them is just as important as seeing all it’s flaws. I personally just don’t take it too seriously and find myself enjoying lots of things on different levels. If it were up to me no one would ever feel bad if they liked something because it really just doesn’t matter that much, everything is all relative and lots of things are actually pretty enjoyable on some level but for some reason I feel I’m the only one who sees that it seems.

Also, bad music appears to get worse because the internet brings you the most shareable stuff and truly bad music gets shared a lot, so the worst stuff gets passed around the most. And the next terrible thing has to be even worse to get the same response. So the system brings you increasingly bad music.

In my opinion, Honey Pie is as bad as Friday.
I do think that music, art and humanity has evolved to a high point and since then we have been abbreviating things. Some may argue that it gets to the essence of a thing, but it also opens doors for pure, base, shit.

as a fan of Phil Collins, i gotta say Sussudio is a mixed bag, i kinda feel like listening to it is the musical equivalent of watching The Office; You’re looking at something a little bit cringeworthy, but it’s cringeworthy in a fun way, and that’s totally alright. Still prefer Genesis over solo Phil though.

How the HELL did Whigfield’s Saturday Night not make that list?!?!

Nearly thirty years later my nightmares are still haunted by that intro…..

I will however agree with the “Birdie Song” as that was a torture of every birthday party, or gathering of my childhood along with “Agadoo” by Black Lace

Just an observation, you used an awful lot of footage of Cher Lloyd while discussing kids whose parents paid for videos to be made for them. And as truly, truly annoying as she was Cher was a winner of the British X Factor not a benefactor of rich parents. Unless her doppelgänger coach Cheryl wasn’t telling us something……

Music is an emotional and objective process. For instance, I like the Beatles "Honey Pie" because it's short and quirky. I liked "Ob-La-Di, Ob-La-Da" because it was just plain fun. These were more like little glimpses into the Beatles genius and none of it belongs in the 'Worst" column.

These songs are my guilty pleasure. I love Ice Ice Baby. Barbie Girl is iconic. Don't Worry Be Happy? Simple and true. I don't know if bad songs are worse, but if people can make music easier, we can definitely see them easier and I don't want to.

I hate Don't Worry Be Happy with the fury of 1000 Supernovas. Why? Well because the song is utterly vapid mindless fluff. It isn't even bad in an infuriatingly interesting way it is instead very, very annoying. Say like Urkel!!!

The fundamental difference between the Beatles, no matter how corny Paul got, or Collins, no matter how shamelessly commercial he got, and the Friday/Chinese Food producers songs is that the former are actual musicians while the latter is a con artist who just happens to work in music. He's not making actual songs, he's defrauding middle class and rich suburban families by making the lowest quality music he can get away with to make money. Like I'm not a "music needs to have harmony melody and rhythm" Ben Shapiro moron, but that man does not make anything that qualifies as real music. So of course the arguably stinky shit from actual artists is still better. Hell even Barbie Girl, despite being annoying, is attempting to say something. Vanilla Ice thought he was making art even. Friday producer dude knows exactly what he's doing.

The Beatles are highly overrated. possibly the most overrated band , with the exception of kiss. The Beatles are sorry, especially John Lennon for blaspheming my God.. But he got humbled.
