The DCEU is no more, and James Gunn is ringing in a new era of DC movies with his take on Superman, which in true Gunn fashion is full of weird monsters, tons of characters, and so. many. jokes.

Superman definitely raises some questions. Like how is Lex so efficient with his little fighting commands? Why does Superman get beat up so much? Is Superman really not gonna help with that one monster?

    I'm convinced that the folks who like these films, were the ones still taking their action figures and banging them into each other while screaming "BASH!, BIF!, BOOM!"… In High School. 🙂

    James Gunn: so when the Kaiju dies, it about to fall down on a bunch of fleeing civilians
    Hollywood Bigwig: and the Kaiju lands on the civilians, killing them. Brilliant idea!
    James Gunn: um, no. Superman uses both his super speed and super strength to prevent the dead Kaiju killing the civilians, saving them!
    Hollywood Bigwig: that's anticlimactic, I don't think the audience would like that, it's not dark and gritty
    James Gunn: I'm sure they won't mind
    Hollywood Bigwig: is there going to be a Man of Steel reference at least?
    James Gunn: there is, in a fight scene, Ultraman throws a bus at Superman but missed
    Hollywood Bigwig: ooh, and Superman dodged it while aura forming while the bus hits the building?
    James Gunn: no, Superman catches it so it doesn't do that. In fact, I'm thinking of adding a scene of Superman saving civilians, including a squirrel, from getting killed in the Kaiju fight
    Hollywood Bigwig: I don't think I like this idea, either you make this Superman dark and edgy, or you can find someone else to greenlight this crappy adaptation
    James Gunn: I'll find someone else, I won't stop till my Superman movie gets greenlight
    Hollywood Bigwig: good luck with that! I know what people actually like based solely on my own preferences and react to hostility when someone tries to pull me wrong!

    Newscaster: breaking news! The new Superman movie this year in 2025 has been declared the best Superman live action movie! Anyone who rejected greenlighting this movie are complete morons who don't know what they're doing!

    I feel like a lot got skimmed over in this pitch meeting which I know is usually what happens but I feel like it's even more here. You completely skip over Krypto getting hurt and kidnapped by Lex, Jimmy Olsen's Subplot, Hawkgirl killing the same World Leader that Superman is in trouble for threatening. Besides all that though, it's great, plus it's even funnier when you realize that this is James Gunn (Director) talking to James Gunn (Studio Head).

    Sounds familiar 🤔 I just can’t put my finger on which actual world leader keeps talking about stopping fake wars that never were about to happen and cannot name which countries because they’re fictional and he’s a big boy now who does big boy things

    This missed the part where lex only "lost" because he got arrested for some barely visible out of context selfies that would be totally impossible to fake tm.
    But great vid as always.

    tbf they do explain why Lax doesnt kill superman right away, cant remember fully but it had something to do with government wants to do something first

    oh man, so sad you didn't catch that the fortress of solitude is in Antarctica .. and while it's summer in Metropolis, famously in the northern hemisphere, it's winter and perpetual night in Antarctica

    The imp scene is seriously misunderstood. It's showing how is also the most knowledgeable superhero. He doesn't attack the imp cause the imp is literally not destroying or attacking the city. Heck it's not even attacking the Justice Gang. It's spraying them with mist

    Because if he killed Superman while he was still seen as a hero then he would hate that
