    Funny thing about Spinal Tap…
When it first came out, I was in my early 20s. I was SERIOUS about playing in a rock band and wanted to be a big star SO badly, that the movie offended me! I felt insulted and didn’t take the joke well at all. Hated it!
About 10 years later (once I realized my fate of local cover band greatness 😂🤣) I got the joke and enjoyed it immensely! Funny how time can change your perception.

There's a video floating around on YT of Blackie being interviewed in 1992 talking about that same moment when Cliff couldn't get to the stage.

Blackie states on it that Metallica are his old friends. I don't think they were really his friends. 🤔

I think my first initial ear-full of /Metallica; on my school bus was in May[1987] a day after Poison opened for Quiet Riot at my home-town movie theatre. It scared the shit out of me "Disposable Heroes"; these girls(women) were Seniors at GHS. They took my "Theatre Of Pain" & , then made me hear {fast as 4321} extreme music through my jam-box. They gave back my Crue and this dude said, "he's cool"! So, I sat in the back the rest of the ride. METAL RULES!

I'm like Blackie, I find ST mildly amusing.
Bad News Tour (plus the sequels), is absolutely hilarious though.
No surprise those comedians became legendary game changers.
    🤟🤟

I wonder if that was the same VFW Hall in Indiana where George Harrison jammed with some locals before The Beatles broke big on The Ed Sullivan Show??? His big sister had married and moved to the States before The Beatles were famous…his last few weeks of being incognito for the rest of his life…….sorry it was Illinois.

I think Robert Plant said the "lost in the basement" scene was perhaps based on a Led Zeppelin concert in Cleveland. The band could not find the way to the stage.

In March of 1985, these guys came to Phoenix, minus AS. If I'm correct, they played a separate gig, in Phoenix or else where. Bcuz W.A.S.P. and Metallica only played. Metallica opening. Killed it. W.A.S.P. was great too, doing their schtick. Great show.

Gee, I wonder when Blackie is going to pay Chris Holmes his royalties? Afterall Blackie did have Chris sign documents when Chris was intoxicated back in the day, plus Blackie knew then and still knows Chris can NOT read very well. FACT

Hi Adam & full in bloom.
    YouTube snatched my old account.
    X—Donnie (guitar tech)—X
    Posting this under alias.
I remember the venue. There were several venue's like this on that grueling tour. More toward the east coast as they tended to be more dated at the time.
    The tour
    (Metallica Wasp Armored Saint)
    Seemed to go on forever.
    Blackie was just slightly mistaken.
    (Allow me to explain)
When bands were billed in those days, the headliner, opener etc, would be in the order of album sales. So in the US Metallica sold more than Wasp and of course then Armored Saint. Pretty sure I made it clear in older posts, I teched for Dave Prichard for about five years in the 80's.
The reason I know this for sure was I distinctly remember the sht that went down when the tour trekked thru Canada, as we toured extensively in both the US and Canada.
We had all settled into the groove with Metallica as the headliner. When we crossed over the border, is when Wasp headlined. They had more record sales in Canada so that's were the flip flop thing happened. Blackie and management got into a big argument with Bobby Schneider Metallica's then tour mngr, over who would headline.
When it was revealed Wasp had more record sales in Canada, Bobby backed off and agreed to put Metallica in the middle slot.
Fair is fair! (All due respect) I wouldn't want to argue it with Blackie, but that's the way I remember it.
On another note, we, Metallica and Armored Saint, crossed over the border into Canada from buffalo New York on our way to Montreal for the first gig
Armored Saint tour mgr Ron Laffite had a talk with our camp about not having or taking any contraband into Canada. Like the numbskulls we were, Dave Prichard and I took the speaker out of a Marshall cabinet and hid a sack of weed inside. When the two buses and equip trucks hit the checkpoint, we were all required to park and go inside to customs. Tired and sleepy, we went in. It looked like a bunch of oversize jackets and gobs of hair!😅
We made it in. However, Lars was detained because he was from Denmark. 4 or 5 hours later he caught up with us. At the hotel I retrieved the weed and we headed inside to burn one. We ended up in Cliff's hotel room rolling joints. (Cliff was stoked we had weed) (James Kirk and Lars didn't smoke)
It somehow got back to Ron and he was livid! We were summoned to his hotel room, where he yelled and screamed and Imposed a $150 fine each on Dave Prichard and I.
Blackie and Wasp roared thru those show's kick'n ass. Montreal, Toronto, Quebec, Ottawa, Alberta, Vancouver, and a few others as I recall. Yes there were many a spinal tap moment on those runs in day's of old.
Well I prolly should cut it here.
As always man, thanks for listening and letting me share these musings. I love all Y'all (full in bloom).
Keep up the good work, you guys rock!!
    Donnie (guitar tech)
