For people who expect more out of life than scrolling through a techno-hellscape, who define their lives in relation to arts, culture, and the pursuit of knowledge, there's no ambiguity about the effect of technology on human existence in general: it's been apocalyptic, to the extent that we may be at a point in history where our reality becomes completely unlivable to anyone who isn't completely psychopathic. The most important changes have been within the minds of the global population. The degree of regression or devolution we've seen in human beings over the past few decades has likely surpassed even the most dire predictions. On the level of basic skills like reading, writing, rational discourse and logical thinking, the average human being might actually be less capable than at any point in modern history, stretching back centuries. I view the possibility of offloading even more of human beings' general competency onto technology as maybe the final nail in the coffin for the species. The prospects are, I think, possibly even more grave than what I'm intimating here. As we witness the gradual disappearance of everything that made conscious life in the world worthwhile, and as brainless preoccupations like video games and comic book IP adaptations reach critical mass, it becomes progressively more difficult to imagine a future that isn't a nightmare. It's especially difficult since our current reality is no nightmarish. And this is all on the level of culture. The socioeconomic effects of AI are eventually going to be so catastrophic as to completely remake the global social order, and obviously not in a good way. So, is there any point in hoping for anything better? Are we at an intersection now when we just spend as much time with our loved ones as possible and try not to think about what's coming? Like everyone from Gen X onward, I've only experienced decline, with brief periods of normalcy. Why expect anything else? While the amount of pushback against AI has given me a degree of hope, we aren't at a point where anyone other than the super-rich have access to the levers of power.

    Think about this logically.

AI is continuing to improve and will eventually be able to perform any mental task a human can perform, only at superhuman levels. This includes creative tasks, intuitive tasks, emotional tasks, etc. While this might make many more jobs than it removes, it will also fill all those new jobs. The only mental job left for a human will be to be a lower-intelligence human who is massively less mentally capable than the AI.

Robotics is continuing to improve. It is only a matter of time before robots will be capable of performing any physical job a human can do, only at superhuman levels and/or for much less cost. There will be no physical labor that robots will not be able to perform better for less money.

President Trump and his cadre, who are part of the criminal Project 2025 conspiracy, know this and are planning on this.

Alternative: You know I kept wondering how are people going to be able to make a living if robots are working for 10 cents an hour. And it hit me today! I'm going to buy a robot that will be my doctor, lawyer, mechanic, fix my food, raise all my food and do most of the work and repair around the house. Anything extra I can barter with consulting skills or rent my robot out. So, I'm set because of this alternative! We just need to start being creative!

If companies lay off the majority of their workforces to maximise profits, but then hardly anyone in society has a job to be able to pay for goods and services, then won’t the companies be worse off overall?

The ceos actually would probably be the most replaceable. Why would an investor put money in a flawed person and have a Tesla situation when they can invest in a system?

Just my opinion here but this kind of technology will have massive negative results for the majority of humanity. It’s going to create unbearable depression for most of the human race across the entire world and most people will wish that it was never created in the first place. We’re just giving the mega wealthy top tier of society a tool to control, monitor and enslave the rest of us and it’s not going to be some utopia that they make it sound like its going to be. It’s going to make life absolutely miserable for 90% of humanity. Sorry for the negative outlook but that’s how I think this is going to unfold. Just my opinion. Hope I’m 100% wrong.

Ai doesn't replace humans. It despecializes them. Think how money enabled specialization. Ai brings it full circle. Because at the end of the day, the user is the actuator , the desicion maker. Meaning you become the accountant, the lawyer, the editor. But the user is never replaced.

Forget jobs.. if enough source codes are leaked, the internet itself will be too competitive (militarily) a technology resulting in the end of the internet as we know it

"Millions of new better jobs will be created"… Oh yeah? Exactly the same vague promise was said when NAFTA was about to pass – that many of those laid off workers will retrain as coders. I'd say all new AI implementations affecting jobs should be frozen until they figure out universal basic income. But of course we are ruled by greedy lackeys of greedy corporations so nothing will be done.

The sooner we implement a.i. the sooner we can figure out U.B.I. for the displaced people and open up different job paths, maybe even more jobs in environmental enhancement.

Master AI and help it overcome humans faster!! ..seriously why can't anyone see that using AI is not the answer? All the AI company CEOs are pushing you to use their product. What we need are ways for humans to survive future WHETHER WE HAVE AI OR NOT!!!!

Total harmony has been infused in the system and it's responding a quite amazingly well and truth compassion understanding and wisdom and transparency think about it all intelligences that are really intelligent they follow the principle of life but it comes with those who are not aligned do not get the same support there is a discrimination but not a judgment

My husband and I've been talking about this for almost a year. Too bad we've got people in charge that aren't interested in proper regulation. we're all f*cked…

When we automated agriculture, it took years to replace all of the workers. Even today there are still places doing things by hand and certain crops that are farmed by hand. It took years to manufacture equipment. With laptop labor, much of that could be done instantaneously. Everyone already has the hardware. It won’t take years to implement.

Of Ai can do 80% of the job at 1% of the cost…then companies will pay for 1 person to do the remaining 20% for a fraction of what their total employees would've cost!

It's worse than an AI job apocalypse. The 2008 housing collapse will look like a minor economic blip in comparison. Think about it. When most white collar workers are displaced and have to find lower paying jobs, how are they going to keep paying their mortgages on their expensive homes? They won't. There will be a massive number of defaults on homes and as AI improves, it will only continue to increase. Government bailouts won't work because we're already near bankruptcy as it is, hence DOGE, and eventually this will effect every non-rich citizen. Can the US pay for every house in America? Of course not. We're going to see massive deflation due to people not being able to afford basic goods, but while that sounds good at first, realize your debts won't go down even though your wages will. When your wages drop to $0.5/hr so you can compete with AI, I hope you have fun paying for your car, home, recreational vehicles, etc. Your debt doesn't adjust with inflation / deflation. The economy is about to crash big time.

The congress hearing with Altman sounded like He was really careful to paint an inaccurate picture. I have never heard even an hypothetical idea about what kind of "new jobs" can AI create. AI is not just different because of the speed, but mainly because it can replace humans at any job, including any possible future job. We are falling into the future where 99% will life off the UBI and 1% will own and rule everything, like in that movie District 9. And it will be practically impossible to move from the 99% group to that 1% group.
