Angry Video Game Nerd (AVGN) episode 175: The Legend of Zelda: Majora’s Mask. People love this game. People say it’s the greatest game for the Nintendo 64. Some say it’s the best game of all time. Really? Majora’s Mask is an action-adventure game developed and published by Nintendo for the Nintendo 64. It was released in 2000 as the sixth main installment in The Legend of Zelda series and was the second to use 3D graphics. It’s set in Termina, an alternate reality to Ocarina of Time’s Hyrule, which is to be destroyed along with its inhabitants in three days by a giant falling moon unless the player can save it from imminent doom. But can the Nerd survive this game???

In order to save your rupees you have to take him to the Banker guy in clock town to put in your "bank account". He's the only guy in the game that remembers Link when he goes back in time because he never forgets a face. Always thought that was a nice touch. MM is the top 3 Zelda games IMO.

This game always made me feel uneasy. I never finished it because I just never could get past the error vibe. I watched my brother in law complete it and that was cool but it was a super weird game.

i'm glad this didn't do worse damage to discussion of the game online because no offense but it's almost as bad as how egoraptor misrepresented the game. probably the worst AVGN episode, honestly. there was nothing humorous about how exaggerated some of the shortcomings of the game were presented.

5:49 – I remember getting that tape in the mail. I don't know how or why it was sent to me. I never subscribed to Nintendo power or anything like that. I did watch that tape a lot before I got MM for Christmas that year. I played the ever loving sh*t out of that game. Still my fave Zelda game, even now.

The ones born in 1990 and before had great memories with old school games and their glitches and sometimes impossible stages to beat or bosses you would rage quit watch your friends and cousins rage quit ha ha then we would go play outside cause that's all we had back then playing outside or the Super Nintendo or N64 today you have smart phones And tablets and all that online gaming and having everything at your hands like watching anything you want and you have YouTube that's why kids don't go out today anymore

I played every Zelda game and beaten all but number 2 (which I find more frustrating than fun), and I find MM to be a flawed masterpiece. Some of the repetitive nature gets annoying, but it allows other aspects of it to shine.

Still I think when it comes to games like this or Goonies 2, James probably would have liked them more if he played them at the time they were released and did a few things in a slightly different order. I didn’t find them nearly as hard, even younger… but coming back to them with 20/20 hindsight and the full knowledge of how game design will evolve makes some flaws stick out that wouldn’t have been as noticeable 20+ years earlier, when they were still cutting edge for their time.

I forgot this was a New Year's video. By pure coincidence, rewatching new years day 2026. Happy New Years everybody. I did quite the double take at the doomsday 2020 theme, quite the coincidence lol.
