Today James reviews Robocop. The movie takes place in a violent, near-apocalyptic Detroit. An evil corporation Omni Consumer Products wins a contract from the city government to privatize the police force. To test their crime-eradicating cyborgs, the company leads street cop Alex Murphy (Peter Weller) into an armed confrontation with crime lord Boddicker (Kurtwood Smith) so they can use his body to support their untested RoboCop prototype. But when RoboCop learns of the company’s nefarious plans, he turns on his masters.

Sorry to have to correct you on a couple of things

    It’s Bob not Rob

More importantly – the T800 isn’t an android it’s a cyborg and a cyborg (cybernetic organism) is part robot part human.

One of my favourite, and I'll assume one of David Lynch's from the number of performers who later turned up in "Twin Peaks". Rather fitting, considering both stories marry cliched Americana with surreal horror, for the most delightfully morbid of laughs.

Surprised you didnt mention the smash tv "id buy that for a dollar" which by the way acclaim pretty much made all the paul verhoeven based (but not quite) games, smash t.v. (the running man) armorines ( starship troopers) , there has to be more

3:38 For those who don't know, a deleted line in the original Terminator film states that the T-800 has a set of rudimentary organs that allow its skin to stay alive without just rotting. That's why the T-800 is a cyborg.

There's definitely a lot to be said with this movie. I love that they tackled the subject of sentience and the capacity for humans to never have their will truly be overridden. Which was foreshadowed as James mentioned when he twirls the gun before holstering it.

I've always understood the concept of a cyborg as an entity composed of both organic and artificial/mechanical components, so I believe that description for the T-800 terminator is correct. The T-600 series and the T-1000 series would be androids.

    Many errors my friend
    Rob Morton? Bob Morton
    ED-209 ain’t a creature!
Emul is actually Emil ( said by Clarence in the classic Emile way.
Might I suggest IMDB as a tool widely used for around 20 odd years!

2:52 Was he a new recruit? Its been awhile but I recall he was actually a transfer from another district? It was also kind of a character detail as he was intentionally transferring to a more dangerous district because he wanted to help out those who needed it most.

hearing him talking calmly was weird. I kept expecting him to get angry and start swearing.
but seriously ROBOCOP is still one of my favourite films.
Now I must go, somewhere there is a crime happening.

I just finished watching Peter Weller talking about this movie. He said that a lot of problems occurred during the making of this movie. Most particularly the suit not working properly, and how the suit didnt make it to the set until after 20 days of shooting.

He also mentioned how Paul Verhoeven, Ed Neumeier, Rob Bottin, and Peter had all clashed over the suit situation, and how Orion Pictures was going to shut down filming and cancel the movie.

He said that one person saved the movie after immediately becoming involved, and that was Moni Yakim. His instructions for Peters movements and stripping away certain parts of the suit was what got filming back on schedule.

If he wasn't there, we never would have got this movie.
