watching this almost ten years later and suddenly remembering this song came out BEFORE avicii died… i never even noticed how sad this song actually was until now, and now it’s even more depressing

Ngl I don’t realize I do fact know the song until you started playing the music video and lyrics came in ^^’
Also I’m learning I never knew the lyrics, I heard the second line as “to show if EGI was cool” which didn’t make sense but lots of lyrics don’t make sense so I shrugged it off

Every time an artist whose music I dislike puts out a song that I actually like, it seems Posner is behind it. Sugar was the last decent song maroon 5 made and boyfriend was my guilty pleasure when i was still acting like enjoying Justin Bieber was gay and lame

Mike was a bit of a guilty pleasure to me and to alot of high schoolers and young college kids. To your observation, mainly frat bros and soon-to-be, frat bros. When he was first coming up. He was definitely one of those artists kids listened to who thought they were ‘deep’ and ‘liked more than the mainstream’, I am referring to his deeper cuts. Those kids were pretty annoying. Nevertheless, I ended up vibing to it as well.

He definitely was part of the soundtrack of the summer, of a lot of 2010-2011 young stoners.

The lyrics are a lot darker than many people realize. As most people do not analyze these pop songs. Many people prefer the og actually, was not meant to be a big hit. For me, as a recovering addict. I understand what its like to be on X and depressed. That is an incredible mindfuck. Something that can lead to suicidal ideation due to the realization of your life being empty. People you thought were friends are no longer there. Thinking you going to last, just to realize you were just part of the machine that uses you and throws you out just to do the same to the next new flavor of the month. That was impactful to me.

I also think a lot of people still sorta remembered him. So it was cool to hear from him again. That was a part of the reason the song blew up as well. For what it js worth, the song was ok to me at the time. Unlike 99% of radio songs, was not an automatic turn off. Maybe listen once and then turn off when I hear it again.

    Dude the remix has T W O H U N D R E D times as many listens on spotify as poesners og

    That is depressing

Tho i have many songs like that in my playlists

Artists with 20-40k monthly listeners, most of their songs having less than 50k listens

And then theres 1 remix of one of their songs that has millions of listens

My then-boyfriend was, apparently, a longtime Mine Posner fan when this song came out, and he was so very excited that it got big. I remember he said to me, "Mike Posner wrote a hit song about doing drugs in Ibiza with AVICII!" in the same tone he'd use for relaying breaking MCU reveals. Of course my music diet was mostly Midwestern rap and video game soundtracks so that sentence was utterly incomprehensible to me.

As someone who has been addicted to drugs, the lines “You don’t ever want to be high like me, never really knowing why like me” hit so hard; because after a while, you don’t know why, and that realisation is one of the most soul crushing I’ve experienced

"did you ever look at drake and think wow id hate to be that guy?" actually given recent events yeah. it probably sucks to have the entire crowd at the superbowl screaming that youre a pedo

eh. im sure hes still got enough bills to wipe away the tears.
