Whenever I find myself revisiting a movie I enjoyed as a child that I've not yet seen as an adult, I just assume the thing will be terrible and hope to be pleasantly surprised. Sure, a lot of movies don't hold up under that kind of scrutiny, but I always wind up apreciating the ones that do that much more.

But how do you know if the movies we have now will age well? I know we have moved on, but acting as if this time is utopian will probably make us look ridiculous and puritanical in however many years. One thing I'm sure people cannot stand is others acting as if we are at the zenith of a great society. It's delusional.

I was definitely terrified of Poltergeist. But I think it still looks great. Maybe cus Spielberg was involved. Speaking of which, Jaws was scary too. But the shark looked crappy even at the time. I loved a movie called 'The Philadelphia Experiment' (1984). It was scary at the time. Even though the (time travel) special effects look indefensible today, I still watch the movie occasionally. And completely fall into it. And still have a crush on Nancy Allen. Congratulations on 75th birthday to her.

I recently felt this way about Spaceballs. Wanted to show my wife and son what I remembered as one of the funniest films of all time. I think we only laughed at the Tim Russ bit when they're combing the desert.

The fact that he has the audacity to say "That's not great acting is it?", when he's not great at acting like different people himself is hilarious.

My Father the Hero with Katherine Heigl at age 13 wearing a thong bathing suit and pretending her aging father is her lover on purpose. I used to love this movie growing up. Came on the other day and I was so excited. I have no idea why 10 year old me thought that was appropriate.
