CORONER interview on Dissonance Theory, Kreator, Prog Metal, new book & more | TOMMY VETTERLI

Metal Pilgrim | January 2, 2026

My today’s interview guest Tommy Vetterli of Coroner talks about the new Coroner album Dissonance Theory and the different approach Coroner took working on it. Tommy also talks about the break Coroner had and the reason for Dissonance Theory coming out in 2025.

We discuss Tommy’s work as a producer with Eluveitie and other bands, and how it has influenced him as a guitarist, and the fear of disappointing fans that he had when making the new album. Tommy Vetterli also opens up about his influences and the riff lords he still (doesn’t) look up to.

We talk about the new book on Coroner, his time at Kreator and working with Mille Petrozza and much more. Hope you enjoy it!

Good music is ruined by absolutely monotonous samples. It feels like the keyboard player only knows one sample. remix the album and remove those monotonous samples.

Coroner are the Rush of Progressive Thrash. The new album is their "Moving Pictures" masterpiece. I hope Ron and Tommy know that us long-time fans love it and appreciate it!

Yeah, exactly ! It's like they never had a break and just recorcded a new release like every other band. But this is Coroner, this is Dissonance theory, this is another level. This is not a comeback of the century – it's a greatest comeback of all time ! Such quality, inteligence and creativity. I just fell in love in that album. Freaking legends !!!

Saw Coroner last March when they played Toronto. Awesome show and they played Sacrificial Lamb off the new album so I was familiar with that song before the album was released. Dissonance Theory is my pick for Album Of The Year. A tremendous comeback.

The album is a masterpiece. I’ve been listening to it on repeat for a couple of days now. It’s such a good feeing to be excited this much due to a record. In stores it should be labeled as fresh metal :)) Thank you 🙏🏻

After listening to dissonance theory several times I have the right to say it's probably the most finest album ever recorded in the last 32 years. I've seen someone doing a review and saying that the song transparent eye was the less relevant and it's probably the best one of the album, but to be honest every single one is brilliant as fuck. The more I listen to it, the more I love it. There's something that blows my mind… Tommy says he was out of creativity 😂😂😂 bro… Tommy… You just played that guitar once again like no one else before. Every note you choose, every rithm, everything you do is totally of the charts. This album is finest champagne like every Coroner album. Ron sounds huge, like a monster and Diego fits perfect in the band. You guys are legends. The fathers of everyone out there. Thank you for existing guys. Thank you for the comeback. I've never been so happy. Thank you so much Coroner. You are my religion.

Amazing album, really like it. Actually just going through a Kreator period as well right now with Outcast and Endorama and the solos there are something quite special, take Golden Age as a good example. Tommy is such a creative musician, this new Coroner album was the best surprise of 2025 for me.

Dissonance Theory it's a bombastic, incredible experience to listen. Ranks not only between the best Coroner has done but one of the best metal albums from the last years. Truly impressive and definitely a breath of fresh air for thrash metal and metal in general. They took an eternity to release something new but after listening to it, worth every year they took. 10#10 my rank.

Never thought a new album would come and honestly I was happy about that; You don’t want that legacy being stained or ruined.
But Dissonance Theory is all I hoped it to be and beyond. It’s not old nostalgic Coroner without new ideas, and it’s not too much new ideas disconnected from the good old Coroner either.
    It is just perfect!
