Used to have Trapper Keepers in the 80s, Junior and Senior high. Hid my Hot Rod magazines in them, sneaked them into class.

With schools going to 4 days, expect it to get even worse. They also have it easy with no homework. Why did they make us suffer all our youth and then make it into a "no child left behind" education? Like most of us didn't leave school stupid enough back then. Very cool Our Gen X Life logo. I have a great lunchroom story. Someone made me laugh and I spit my chocolate milk all over the table. I don't remember if I hit anyone with it or not, but I did have a teacher scream at me for it. Fried Spam sandwiches are delicious. I haven't had one in years.

My elementary school looks nothing like it did in 1989. So many additions and renovations.

Yeah, my school district didn’t start school until after Labor Day. This changed in 1994 for my junior year.

Ok,I’m still watching this video, but I’m totally team Keith on mechanical pencils.
I will immediately go to your space that takes in 80’s stories and write about a few legendary writing implements.

I remember $1.00, 1.25 Middle school lunches, grammar school was even less. High school was $3 i think. But I would go to the yummy salad bar… oh and in CA we always had cheese or pepperoni, square sliced pizza. They would do em pizza bread style sometimes, after a while.

I went back to my elementary school on my 40th birthday weekend (in 2011) My wife and I took a little local road trip back to the neighborhood I grew up in (K-8). In the late 90s my grade school had closed due to school consolidation and the building of a new school and the old school now housed village offices. The inside was closed but the best part–the playground–was open! My wife got a photo of me hanging on the original monkey bars, still standing. In fact, even though they had some newer sections, several original pieces of the old playground from the 70s was still intact. That's been 14 years now so I'm not sure what it looks like now.

LOL at the sloppy joe story. The way the story was going I thought it would lead to the teacher making him eat it out of the milk carton. The school report with all the clipping was also great. You should do a video discussing products like foods, soaps, detergents, household appliances/products that you and your families bought/used in the 80's. In the report there was a clipping of Sunlight dishwashing detergent. We used that in our house back then. You could also talk about TV products that was advertised like Pearl Cream, Didi Seven, Crazy Calls, Oster Kitchen Center etc…

In elementary school we also ate at the cafeteria/auditorium that had a stage. If you were bad and was too loud the cafeteria ladies would make you eat your lunch on the stage. They would come out with a spatula and pound it on the table to get kids to quiet down. They also would sell meal tickets. I remember bringing an envelope with money in it for the week and given a card. The lunch lady would have a hole punch and punch one time for each lunch. If you were sick and missed a day you had credit the next day. School lunches were mostly subsidized by the government. I cant remember elementary school prices but when I graduated in 1988 lunches were around $1.00.

Great video, you guys!
Man, I was a bad student in school and the class clown.
If it wasn't for Sports class and joining my school basketball and baseball teams, I probably would have dropped out of school in Sydney Australia.
Also, if it wasn't for American sports being so big in my life. I probably wouldn't have been to America so many times.
But I love it and come as much as possible.
Last year, I did my first Comicon at San Diego. It was amazing!
Have you guys been to any Comicons or Cons in your neck of the woods?
Our biggest sports are Cricket and Rugby League and AFL.
But because I played Basketball and Baseball. I never got into my own countries national sports, haha.
To this day, I live and breathe Baseball
