It appears what the CanCon gov stooges mean is that since youtube does not have a chain of command they can intimidate, they therefore have no interest in paying youtube users who Are Canadian even if they provide CanCon. Therefore, take that as a sign you are free from worry that any G stooges are going to pay you the kind of attention you do or do not want. 🙂

I think I like this bill and was previously unaware of it. I also don't mind the implementation strategy, the government subsidizing the industry to increase supply sounds like the right first step if the end goal is increase the amount of Canadian media is being consumed by Canadians. In this specific sector I don't think this is bad protectionism.

If anything makes me less patriotic than I already am for a country, it is policy like this showing how desperate and so staggeringly out of touch they are from the most basic aspects of lives for the people who actually live in it.

Bring back the digital services tax! We got nothing for cancelling it! I see this channel is filled with self hating Canadians. anyone willing to come on NodeCast for an interview?

What many people fail to see is that the Canadian Film and Television industry is quite strong and employs a lot of people. We produce a lot of content for the streaming platforms. Many of the most popular and well known TV shows and movies are filmed in Toronto, Vancouver or surrounding areas.

None of what they're doing right now affects that law that empowers them to do it. Which means they can always change their mind about how they're doing what they're doing. If the law technically let's them interfere with content creators like YouTubers, streamers, and the like then we need to assume that they can and will do it. You cannot trust in the forbearance of those who enforce or implement laws. If a power is held by them, they will use it. So the power needs to be taken away for us to truly be safe.

Why are we subsidizing the production of Canadian cultural and patriotic content, when Bollywood already pumps out billions worth for free year?

Wait, did the CRTC just pull that 5% tax out of thin air, or was that in the text of the law? If the latter, that makes sense, but if the former, that is such a big difference from the American system of implementation. Here an exec branch agency would be in court so fast if they created a "new tax".

I appreciate the work you have been putting in to fight C-11. Have you been trying to push back against any other sneaky govt bills?? I've been signing petitions and writing govt officials but that was likely not so impactful..

This was a good move by the Canadian government. From a non-Canadian, one could argue that Canada has been the most successful country in the world when it comes to YouTube. Many of the world's biggest YouTubers are Canadian and hold a lot of viewership and influence outside the country's borders (including a lot of popularity in the States). In the 21st century, YouTube has shown itself as probably one of the biggest ways Canada has won the 21st-century global culture game. Anything that could mess up the algorithm against some of these Canadian creators, whether intentionally or not, would definitely hurt this influence.

The streamers will just pass the tax on to consumers…. So end the end this is just another tax that will be passed onto the people who use their services….. in Canada.

Please discuss Bill 9 proposed by the quebec government. Would love to get your thoughts on it and the future of Quebec's secularism in an increasing multicultural Canada

Honestly, I couldn't care less if the content I watch is Canadian. I want to watch stuff that I think is entertaining, and I don't care where it's from as long as it's good
