During the Late Cretaceous, the Gulf of Mexico extended northwards into southern Illinois, leaving THICK chalk deposits covering Mississippi, Alabama, Texas, northwards into Kansas, Tennessee, Kentucky, and Illinois, and these are just areas I have seen with my own two eyes. Google "The Coon Creek Formation" to learn about one particularly spectacular example.

If the worlds oceans stay at the present temperature the melting of the ice will raise the oceans 70m. But what happens to water if it warms too? I have read that the total sea level rise is probably 84m because the presently cold sea water warms and expands.
This is water expansion is unlikely to be fast because much of the deep water is no more tha 4Β°C, even in the tropics, because water at about 4Β°C is the densest water and sinks below all the other sea water and only comes to the surface in a few places around the world. For example of the coast of Peru where constant offshore breezes usually push surface water our into the Pacific Ocean and cold bottom water rises to keep the ocean from having a hole. Physics hates having holes in liquids.
Some of the cold bottom water in the tropical Pacific Ocean sank at the edge of the Artic Ocean hundreds of years ago and flowed right south in the lowest levels of the North an South Atlantic Oceans until it got where it is now. Its still freezing some of the year in surface of the Arctic Ocean so this Ocean warming is only affecting the surface.
So here is a ral estate tip. If you want to build a multi-generational palace for your dynasty, make sure it is based on land higher than 84 m anove sea level.
Just to make things a little more complex some land is rising and a lot of cities are built on land that is falling. Get a good geologist into your dynasty to look out for geological fishhooks.

Arctic warming is taking place with the proving mechanism being warm Atlantic Ocean waters migrating deeper and more frequently into the Arctic Ocean warming it and the region. The warmer Arctic Ocean water is causing a few weeks less of reflective snow and ice surface cover resulting in more solar heat gain to the Arctic region surface. The lower northern hemisphere is slightly cooling. NASA reports global warming at 1Β°C (2025) where it has been since 1992 after falling from 1.1Β°C in 1991. The cause of global warming is not known with scientific studies going back to the 1970s.

Not good news, Bill, but needful. I believe in Climate Change, and I'm worried about our planet, too, but my hope is in God. I PRAY people to rise up and do what is good for our entire planet and stop pollution and all things that hurt our planet for their gain. God made this planet a delicate balance, and it should be appreciated and kept that way for future generations. When a man gets in the way of nature, they are just messing things up for their descendants. I'll be in heaven one day, not worrying about climate change, so I try not to worry about it now, but I do because I'm here and I see the icecaps melting. It is a very serious issue that needs to have more awareness and proactive laws to prevent it from happening.

The government wants to use our tax dollars to fix a "man made climate problem" to create an elite group of wealthy campaign donors who create inefficient energy toys.
College kids cry about the polar bears. The damn things will eat you! How about crying for $35,000,000,000,000 in debt for your next 5 generations to pay for???

Bill Nye only has a a BS in mechanical engineering. No Masters degree. No doctorate degree. He needs to stick to mechanical engineering. He iclearly is a lay person in everything else.

soooo… like what? ic esherts melt, we get some more water, and it will cost govenrments money? is costing the government money the bad part? not really feeling a sense of urgency from this.
