Unbelievable Facts About Biosphere 2, The Largest Contained Experiment Ever
Nowadays, the ambitious and wild Biosphere 2 experiment is only remembered as a footnote to the Pauly Shore film Bio-Dome, which is a shame. The Biosphere 2 project was ambitious, idealistic, and apocalyptic; it was some pretty crazy science wrought with drama, intrigue, cults, and billionaires. There are many wild Biosphere 2 stories as a testament to this fact. In short, its movie should have been a David Fincher thriller instead of a low-budget comedy.

Why did they give up, why did they quit? The purpose was to learn from the experiment. Why didnt they get c02 scrubbers and introduce animals to eat the roaches and bugs? They should have kept adding and changing things to keep it going. If we cant grow food we cant go anywhere in space.

Why doesn't SpaceX have a Biosphere experiment running if they are serious about colonising Mars? Asking for a friend.

Good job- Just one correction. They we're called "Biospherians," not "Bionauts".

The reason for the failure was no interpersonal relationships as in s*x. if they had used 70 somethings instead of 30 or 40 somethings it may have worked. Also everyone wearing the as outfit made the environment very sterile. Let's not even talk about the lack of entertainment.

The real question I want to know is what happened to the building?
I can see where a number of people might want to lock themselves away for the next 4 years. The place might be a perfect escape, the "Ultimate Safe Place" if you will.

I just have to say those scientists didn’t take account that earth is 75% water with oxygen producing bacteria’s algae’s and seaweeds. Plankton being number one producer.

This is so so exiting! I would definitely try to live there with REAL sientists, maybe with a "lot" of them, first "only" half-closed, just to find solutions for the problems, then maybe close it for a half a year, BUT with people who are able to fix the ecosystem. I think that the number of the community inside should be at least around 30 and it should be "different kind of" people… like the ones who love to do different things. One to provide food, work on the "fields, others to "clean/wash", others to make good food or programs for the menthal health… I would go in for free….

I didn’t know (also possibly just don’t remember 😫😩🤣) that Bio Dome, with Pauly Shore & Stephen Baldwin was based loosely on a real experiment. 🤣🤣 In my defense I was young enough to find that movie absolutely hilarious. Lol I loved it back then, whew, how time flies

Looks like the project could have benefitted from a better psych screening of the participants. I remember when this thing all fell apart back in the 90's. It was pretty disappointing.

There's a lot of science happening in the Biosphere 2 even now! It's a really cool space, I'd encourage people to visit if they're ever in southern Arizona.

I think Biosphere II was a great success because it showed how badly we'd fail if we tried to make our own earth-like habitats. In other words, we need to take better care of Biosphere I because it's all we've got.

Imagine a world where all humans are equal regardless of sex, every human being has ultimate rights, and there is no such thing as subversion. The governing powers must acquiesce to their citizens to stay in power, and the majority equal control. Unforseen consequences will occur. The mindset of the masses greatly influences public policy. The control of the minds of individuals is one of the current wars we are facing. God i have more to saybut im tired.
