Terrible review… I think you missed the point, and don't understand what Paradise Lost are actually about…. That said, as a life long fan of Paradise Lost, sometimes their albums are not "instant" with me – it can take a few listens, and familiarization to really let the album get under your skin and the penny to drop – I suggest you listen again, maybe a couple of times – it's definitely a grower….

i am a fan of PLost since mid 90ies and although i have not fancied all their albums or directions they took, Ascension is the first record since Tragic Idol which keeps my attention throughout the full playtime. actually i liked the fact that they put similar musical passages which remind me their mid-career albums. so i guess your review reflects your own musical taste and has less or nothing to do with the merits of this album.

Ok, never disagreed more with a reviewer. This is the first album they've made in 10 years that makes me re-live what I loved about them in the 90ties. If you dislike that, then…well, I guess we like totally different sides of PL. This album for me is perfection. Could be their best ever. I've been a fan since 1993.

Dude you're crazy, Draconian Times is in my top ten albums list of all time. And I'm not the only one, trust me. I respect the taste but more commercial or not, inarguably "softer" in sound, Icon and Draconian Times had INSANE songwriting and flawless production.
