Honestly I'd take it for the clock & weather center alone.

For gaming though, it just wouldn't feel right without a vector based CRT (which I'm sure are far too difficult and/or costly to source for a project like this, so I get why they're going the LCD route) and the original size form factor and controller.

Idk the display just isn't popping like the OG unit which defeats the purpose. The Vectrex has that vector glow that is so hard to replicate not using a CRT. Plus I get it's a mini but it's far too small. Sucks because I always wanted one.

You’ve got to be joking? A Vectrex requires a vector based display, in order to be a Vectrex. The whole point is the driving of, and experience of using, the analog vector display.
Playing on a pixel based LCD display, is just like any other retro inspired game console. So, only of interest to people who don’t technically know what a Vectrex is.

I always wanted a Vectrex when I was younger as I loved games like Asteroids and Luner Lander but they were to expensive for me at the time. When I got older and had money, the second-hand price for a decent one was still way to expensive for me to justify. This Kickstarter looks good but its just not the vector graphics I would have hoped for and moneys a bit tight now to even back it. Looks like its one thing I'll never own in any physically. It is however great to see the system still lives on in any form but sad people who buy this will not get to see how different it was to use a vector graphic based system with a cathode ray tube screen. Regarding the games, I was under the impression that all of them were able to be downloaded legally as long as they were used for non profit reasons (emulation I guess). At one point a cart was released all of the games on the one cart. I take it this Kickstarter has licensed this as the console, box art and games are not in the public domain and Jay Smith and Spencer Smith still own the rights, asking as I didn't see this mentioned in the Kickstarted when I -admittedly skim – read it.

It needs a lens, or some sort of curved formed overlay so that the screen feels like a glass one. I think we realise the limitation of the project given that it could never be a real CRT – and it looks like the software is doing a great job on the OLED. But, it just being flat as a pancake is wrong. The curvature of the screen is as important a detail of the industrial design of the product as any other.

I've always wanted a Vectrex! This is really intriguing! 180 bucks for one so small, with no final version before the cutoff? I can't justify it without being able to see a production version. Which, with the money they've made, I'd hope they'd be able to do at least a couple of runs of these to be able to sell through the year. Especially since I bet a lot of people didn't even knnow about it till today, and having just a few days to budget and pledge for it in the middle of the holiday season? Oof. I'd be much more likely to pull the trigger if this was, say, May.

I guess they couldn't source the actual OLED for the prototype? Those black levels look horrid but it's a typical maker screen you can find on online retailers from the look of it.

The Vetrex was a mythical computer to me. I dont think it ever got released in australia, but we DID get ads for it as a young kid, and I sooooooo wanted one. I dont think I've ever seen one IRL, but I coveted that thing so hard.
