I have to honestly say that the brand new atlas robot looks terrifying,I can't image walking down the sidewalk of a street and seeing this thing staring at me all away across the street and it crawling all on force and chasing me, completely nightmare fuel, but honestly, I am surprised on how far robotics and ai have come over the last past few years now.

The more technological inventions and the more technology progresses, the worse things are for us on earth—more suffering, more wars, more everything bad. Don't you see that this is our end?

Im so hyped! Im studying robotics and my teacher can’t stop telling about how hard and slowly growing it is compared to other fields but seeing stuff like that make me believe the future is bright and i won’t get bored

Notice unlike humans with multiple sensory nerves and brain stem and muscle joints that make task easier the robot can handle the more complex hard limbs and motors. Yet it is not using exaflops but often hundreds of teraflops or a few petaflops. This is likely range of brain computing and better algorithms will allow agi within this compute constraint.

2:14 450 million connections? and you compare that to a brain? brain has not millions not billions but hundreds of trillions of connections (estimated around 100-500 trillion).

    450.000.000
    vs
    500.000.000.000.000

    that is 0.00009%
that is like comparing a millimeter to 11.1 kilometers (about 7 miles)
thats no longer just "simplified" xd. even if you go just by size and the brain is prob a lot more than JUST the amount of connections, with its inner architecture for processing steps, compartmentation and regulations etc.; only counter argument i see is that these connections can process much faster then the ones of a biological brain, potentially closing the gap (quite) a bit.

so I imagine they could run a simulation in their mind a million times right before performing a certain task to see what could go wrong and the best action they should take from just looking in front of them and creating a simulation based on the view. Kinda like the chess bots seeing many many moves ahead but in the real world. The future is nuts.

Humanoid robots are not an efficient footprint for most use cases. You don't need a robot driving a car, just a self driving car. You don't need a robot pushing a lawnmower, just a self driving lawnmower. You don't need a robot pushing a vacuum, just a Roomba. You don't need a robot soldier, just a cheap drone. The cost of human robot, the complexity, the required compute, makes it much less efficient than more simple footprints. Check out the amazon warehouse robots that move stocks around. A humanoid robot might have some use in a household or some form of medical care but otherwise it's the wrong design, expensive, inefficient, costly to maintain, costly in terms of computer, etc. They won't be the future.
