“Deport Them All” — Who’s to Blame for Springfield’s Immigrant Crisis?

Donald Trump named Springfield, Ohio, as his first target for mass deportations. He claimed Haitian immigrants there were eating pets. We went to Springfield to hear the real story from the people who live there. It turns out the city’s decline isn’t new — and that its causes aren’t what you’ve been told.

    Sad as can be really. What a bunch of traitors to America we have been a victim to. I don't care what you are, red or blue, the fact is that it was Reagan, AND Clinton AND Bush AND Obama AND Trump AND Biden that brought down the American middle and working class and guess what? That's ALL OF US.

    The Haitians are adding to the cultural enrichment of the community and many of these folks will serve as future doctors, lawyers and astronauts, right? So what if we have to support them for years to come.

    About time to tell the truth about the Haitian people. They are hard working, and did not eat cats and dogs. Shame on that lady that said they ate the cat. Damage done. And Vance just used it to his advantage. But maybe he will pay for it some day.

    I don't understand this. Why does your cat going missing result in you going through your neighbor's trash instead of your basement? It would never occur to me to do that, and, even if it did, I wouldn't. There was some significant hate there to begin, along with and an odd sense of entitlement. Landlords exploit people; it is what they do, even in areas where the population isn't growing. These are issues government should be working on, not rounding up productive residents whose labor is needed. The only problem government ever seems to work on is coddling the wealthy and providing welfare to large corporations.

    Its strange to me that people seem to think they're getting free money and also working 12hr shifts 7 days a week for low pay. It requires so little common sense to figure out and yet they prefer to believe that immigrants are getting "free money" and "living high on the hog" when the truth is, they're all being taken advantage of. Anti-immigrant bias is so old and yet we never seem to learn… its never the immigrants that are causing the problem. Its the people who have all the money.

    I'm so sick of people idolizing Reagan!
    The loss of American jobs is his fault!!!!

    Reagan encouraged deregulation and global trade. I can guarantee you of this because before he was elected, my Father, a labor lawyer, actually spoke with him when he was traveling the country to get elected. That POS actually guaranteed he was going to stop the export of our American jobs, instead he encouraged it!
    My Dad called it and told him to his face he didn't believe him.

    People r so quick to judge, hate and blame. If they had interracted with these people, they could have come to a better conclusion.

    Also why do they believe what the politicians say? They spent 8 trillion in Iraq and Afghanistan. But we listen to them? Hmmm

    How is it that the fictional concepts of “magic cards” and 1,700 dollar relief checks have embedded themselves so deeply into the collective consciousness and no one has thought to check if they’re real? How have so many Springfield residents been made to believe lies and seemingly no one before this interview has thought to ask someone if they’re receiving benefits?? Barron seems to have a good head on his shoulders, and a kind heart to boot—WHY and HOW was he able to believe (and most likely spread) such a blatant lie? I feel like I’m going insane!

    To all those who are still struggling with this nonsense political machine and racism I stand with you all America is great nation and most of Americans are great citizens and warm hearted full of love and kindness I hope we all stand against racism and hatred because it’s never going to change anything by being racist to another fellow human being who is struggling and homeless just because a billionaire wants them out a billionaire is blaming them well I guess that billionaire is the very problem you have

    Barron Seelig absolutely demonstrated that GREED from employers and government is one of the problems plaguing America. At the 25:56 minute mark he says " give me a billion dollars and see what I can do ". With the bare minimum he is helping beyond belief, now imagine what he could do " with a billion dollars " . Like always it's the people that pay the price because that's just the way it is.

    I don’t know about the Haitians but I live in Las Vegas and do multi family housing pest control. I can promise you with 200% positivity that I personally know MULTIPLE families from Columbia Venezuela and Mexico that get a huge portion of their apartments paid for monthly. Low level phones for free. And over a grand per month in food stamps. I live around and work with these people. Treating their homes. I’ve come to know a lot of them on a different level. Do some real reporting bud

    I worked for a small manufacture in a small town in GA in 90's. I worked for all the great working class people there, but unfortunately, the company was closed in early 2000, and all the great workers went to work for Walmart warehouse. It is just sad. One immigrant guy was showing he paid tax but it is not real paid until one filed tax return. Why did the report ask he show the tax return? lol

    Hedge funds companies own 30% of the homes in Ohio it may be 35% my incredibly great state of ct is around 10% . My husband is from Ohio he'd never go back all his friends are now dead or in prison!
