I used to work at an airport and this is quite accurate. All they had was unhealthy overpriced candy in weird custom ziplock bags which you can ONLY find in Hudson news stands in airports (not in bus terminal) and chips and a random book store for some reason, and the only "acceptable" food to eat was poorly made and like $25. I remember I once ate a pizza that was about as thin as a sheet of paper, it wasn't a perfect circle (misshaped), was cut unevenly and tasted burnt. I never ate there again.

As a fourth generation Arizonan who lived there for a quarter century of my own life I can assure not one of us has ever eaten cactus candy and I believe the only place you can find it is in Sky Harbor

I suppose someone’s suitcase could fall apart just when they get to the airport and they need a new one…I don’t know if that happens often enough to devote a whole store to it though 🙂

Hey, Ryan! You should contact Matt over at Assemble Wrestling. He’s obviously a fan and he does good work. He just needs some pointers on talking to himself as you do it better than anyone

"And lets also sell coffee mugs, that's always a fun souvenir, BUUUT when they get home they realize the sticker is covering the warning on the bottom that you can't microwave it or put it in the dishwasher, so they are left with just the worst addition to their kitchen."

    "How much should we charge?"

    "Definitely more than we should!"

I'm unironically baffled by the pricing strategy of airport stores and restaurants.
When I have a long wait time ahead of me I usually do wander around the airport and more often than not, I do find items or food I'd be willing to purchase, even at a slightly higher price than normal – say, 10% more. Then I look at the price and it's like double or triple the normal and I'm like "nope" – and based on the empty tables, full shelves and zero queues at the checkout, the vast majority of other passengers are just like me.

The only stuff that people are actually purchasing en masse and are queueing for are tobacco and alcohol – because most of the price of these products are tax, so it makes sense to buy as much as you can if you're flying from a country with low taxes, the high airport prices can still be a steal when compared to the country you're flying to.

Don’t forget to hire random TSA agents that refuse to let you through with sealed food, even after scanning, even after opening in front of them, even after eating it in front of them when they told you to throw it out. Thankfully this only happened once, otherwise I wouldn’t be able to afford to fly.
