In this video i decided to do something different. Every day, Bandcamp post new articles about different musical topics in a post called “Bandcamp Daily”. Today i decided to read their newest article about the seemingly subtle connection between emo rock and football.

INFO: Emo rock was a genre that developed as a subgenre of hardcore back in the mid 1980s. Some hardcore music started to take more of an emotional approach, leaving the aggression behind and rather introducing sounds that evoked feelings of melancholy, nostalgia and sadness. The tipping point for the genre happened in 1999 with records like “Clarity” by Jimmy Eat World, “Vaya” by At The Drive-in and “Very Emergency” by The Promise Ring just to name a few.

hey old video but quarterbacks is really cool because once i got into them it was a gateway drug into the other bands of their scene aka like the hudson valley indie rock diy scene in the early 2010s — guess it runs parallel to the like indie dit scne in philly in the same time where the emo revival really started — like dean engle quarterbacks is friends with dave from previously lvl up now trace mountains and the lvl up gang made double double whammy which released like one of mitski's albums and other bands at went to college with the lvl up guys

Just came here after seeing your APC video which I thoroughly enjoyed, learnt quite a lot from that video!
In regards to the emo scene I would love to see you explore 'Brand New' for their evolution from being one of the poster children for emo through to their maturation in their eight year in the making experimental final album which hearkens back to their entire career.
Or on a lighter note, exploring Say Anything for their combination of a more upbeat sound in the emo genre juxtaposed with witty and satirical lyrics mixed with darker themes and undertones.

I liked this video. I thought it was a great idea! The thing that I would recommend is if you were to do it again you should add your own commentary around the article. Almost using it as a jumping off point I guess. Great idea though!

Nice topic. These bands, they sound like the Seattle scene, in the 90s! I liked the other video's better, with not so much reading. A few lines is fine. But like you said, time issues. A music riddle or quote of the day, would be nice 🙂
