The $140 Billion A Year of Waste That DOGE Won’t Touch

More Perfect Union | October 28, 2025

Dr. Mehmet Oz, the recently-confirmed administrator of the Centers for Medicare & Medicaid Services. says that he wants to expand Medicare Advantage — a program that former health insurance executive Wendell Potter calls “one of the biggest scams […] we’ve seen in this country.” It lets private health insurers siphon tens of billions of taxpayer dollars to pad their bottom line, but is sold as a way for seniors to save money. In reality, it costs taxpayers 22% more than traditional Medicare. We investigated why Trump and Oz want this program to be even bigger, and who the biggest winners (and losers) will be if they do.

I feel like this video left out the important questions, "How did Medicare Advantage get created to begin with? What problem was it originally intended to solve?" Because what I remember of Medicare Part A ("Original Medicare") is that (1) few doctors would take new Medicare patients and (2) there's no out-of-pocket limit, meaning if your treatment costs $1M, you owe $200K. Medicare Advantage provided the security that came with (1) access to more doctors and (2) an out-of-pocket cap. Am I wrong about this?

Wake up. Medicaid is going down the same street. Ask me. I have so many doctors appointments (10 minutes with a nurse practitioner, wait 2 -3 months for the specialist) it keeps me from actually getting much work done. And I do work, independently, gigs, etc. Medicaid is just one more revenue stream for for-profit medicine. It pads their bottom line.

You'd think someone would look into the billers themselves.
Who was responsible for billing Medicare and UHC 27k for a procedure my doctor said only costs 750??! FFS! And claims he didn't get any of it.
And the 22 bucks for an aspirin at the ER and on and on. If the billers aren't heavily, well paid then why the hell?!???

Vangard, Blackrock and State Street are behind Centene. Centene is now controlling my Medicare. They are not pleasant. I see this going in a very, very bad direction for the patients.

Medicare advantage started out as a great program…..it was only administered by not-for-profit companies and all funds were required to be used to pay claims. Any "surplus" was used to enhance programs the following years, like lower copays, and lower premiums. The organizations offering the programs were held to very high standards and strict regulation. The Medicare Modernization Act of 2006 dismantled the controls and regulations and changed the rules hat existed prior to 2006. The MMA opened the programs to all carriers, including for-profit corporations.

What anerican have never understand is that universal healthcare is a lot cheaper
Insurance companies eat up huge profits .they such up money
Simple out one hundred dollars of care. Insurance companies eat up at least 140
And then charge the person again .
That's why the rest of the world relies on universal healthcare

Comparing Canadians and Americans for life expectancy and medical care cost per capita from 1970 to 2011, Americans die sooner than Canadians while paying more than Canadians in an amount of about $17 trillion dollars. $17 trillion dollars is an amount greater than the USA national debt of the same time period. The greed and sinfulness of the country clubber Rs owned for-profits should be obvious. Please compare 2012 through 2024.

This story did a wonderful and fantastic job at highlighting how these major cooperations steal, deny, delay, and ultimately kill patients.
It’s ALL true there are monsters.

I live in Australia and we have a thing called Medicare as well the thing is with our system I pay tax from my income about $2000aud, a year, any changes based off your income but essentially it means I can get surgery (especially emergency) life-saving medication subsidised by the tax I pay into the system, its not perfect and we have private insurance for to fill the gaps but you can get some of that money back. Truth is this is something I'm willing to pay for and will never complain about.

Someone with Medicaid getting a tooth pulled costs $2500 but if that patient pays cash instead of using Medicaid, it costs $279 …..so yeah…providers are ripping Medicare and Medicaid off big time

They thread all as one big business, no matter the cost, all is about just take from us as much as possible, and give back as less as possible or nothing.

I work in case management and social services and I always steer people away from any Medicare Advantage plan. Traditional Medicare is the way to go, at least for now.

as someone who lives in a place where you pay a few dollars a month and about 50-60% on most medicines (that are pretty cheap to begin with) and get a good medical services, I hope that America will soon join the rest of the developed world in free/almost free healthcare.
this suffering is pointless but to fill the pockets of shareholders.

Petition Legalised Lobbying!! No matter what Issues & Grievances you have, you can be sure that Lobbying is a Primary contributor!!! What goes & what doesn't is largely determined by Lobbying Dollars in America now.

Legalised Lobbying ensures that Private & Corporate Interest take president over Public Interest! It's why neither your Vote nor your Voice(Protesting) seems to matter.

When 3 quarters of a local Populous drafts a document t clearly stating the Expressed Will of the People & signs it then hands that off to their Representatives in Government, they remove the decision making power from their Representatives! Anything less than 3 quarters & the Representatives can claim it is the minority view of those they represent & thus not valid!

Your Representatives are bound by oath to do so. You just have to know how to make them act accordingly. A Petition is the best way to make them represent your Interests!
We must Petition Legalised Lobbying if we want our concerns to be taken seriously!!!

The USA government is a Mafia money laundering syndicate that is so pervasive that no politician will take a stand against the syndicate as they will be replaced almost immediately
