Wolf pack on frozen beaver dam in Minnesota
We just picked up a camera way back in the middle of nowhere on a beaver dam, and it has some dynamite footage, including this gem of the Nashata Pack in December.
One thing that is apparent from the footage, however: there were no pups still alive in the Nashata Pack by December 2021. The Nashata Pack produced their first litter of pups in 2021 and at least 3 were alive as of late summer.
But sometime between late summer and early winter, something happened. Typically, this is the time frame when pups die of starvation because adults struggle to feed dependent growing pups that are reaching adult size.
Of course, we cannot say that is necessarily what happened here. Could have been other factors (e.g., disease, killed by other wolves) but we probably will never know.

I love how they all froze like statues, then all got moving again at the exact same time. They're so synchronized.
