We know a lot about human behavior. We eat for energy to keep us moving. We breathe to bring more oxygen into our blood and to expel carbon dioxide. We blink to keep our eyes moist and sweep away dust particles. We yell to get the attention of someone or a group. We cough to clear our throats and airways of germs, mucus and dust. We shiver to warm up and we sweat to cool down. We understand a lot about why humans do the things they do, but one behavior that isn’t so easy to pin down is laughter. Why do we laugh? What purpose does it serve, and why do we seek it through friendship and humor?

Laughter is psychological balancer and medicine. Humans have consciousness , and with consciousness comes stress, mental illness, ect. Laughter is the balancing opposite reaction to misery. God and natures gift to humanity.

There are various types of laughter. Those that arise from a joke that we were unaware of are the result of a process that involves the brain's ability to make predictions. The brain is constantly projecting multiple potential future states, assigning them a probability of occurrence. A joke that makes us laugh out loud is characterized by generating a reality not contemplated in the expectations that the brain unconsciously generates at all times. The aforementioned inability to project is "read" by our brain, initially, as a gigantic failure. Hundredths of seconds later, our neocortex is informed of what happened, outlining the danger that a moment before "visualized" the Unconscious. The tension generated by the supposed failure in the prediction is evacuated through laughter.

Every good joke is characterized by a totally unexpected ending.

Loving your channel! One observation I had: although we often laugh at things other than formal jokes in conversation, we’re still laughing at SOMETHING funny – not all laughter in conversation is just that polite “getting along” chuckle. My husband and certain friends have made me straight up GUFFAW just because the conversation took a funny turn or there was funny wordplay between us.

The authentic wisdom of Kabbalah explains laughter (and crying btw) quite easily. If you understand that reality is made of two opposite forces, then laughter is a kind of "short circuit" that helps you bridge two opposites that shouldn't (or wouldn't) normally go together. To put it in more relatable terms, Humor removes from us all the puffed up clothing we put on. It is as if it undresses us from all the poses and masks, making us all equal and simple. When we laugh together about weaknesses that are in all of us alike, we immediately create a softer relationship between us.
There is no stronger means than humor to eliminate boundaries, barriers, and distances. The great challenge of our time, the most serious one, is to develop humor to bring people closer to each other, to make us more connected.

There have to be cultural elements to laughter; humor is like art? in some strange way
and in terms of lewd froward jokes; growing up… they rammed every film so full of them, we have been inundated with them to such an extreme.. and sex jokes are low-hanging fruit. I had one job, people made sex jokes NONSTOP. A warehouse? A bunch of dudes, talking about dicks…
Not their fault; i'm sure many folks are aware of how manipulated society is… Social engineering has had more power over most people's minds than their perceived 'free will'
most people are almost completely enslaved, by this society… mystery babylon.. And i previously mentioned sex jokes; scripture mentions thorny soil. i had so many thorns i felt like swiss cheese, i feel seriously exhausted.. why? Because I prayed for Jesus to remove my thorns, I have faith he's doing it?

feel like i'm being key-hauled in life a bit.. love it, anyway; consider what I said. God bless! (I know how, 'out of this world' much of what I said seems to be… it's on point, and the end is near. The Day of The Lord is at hand! It will be a great, and terrible day.) God is so GOOD. Anyone can talk to him; PRAY

you also have to take into consideration he risked his entire families savings all because he had a strong belief in his idea. we all have huge ideas but we dont always take the risk do we.

Interesting topic! I have not reflected on the complexity of laughter.
Antoher interesting topic would be why do we feel the need to share information about us with others, or why do we seek to be noticed.
    Amazing job as always Aperture!

    Have a nice day.

I think laughter is one of those things that we evolved to have ingrained within our genes and society because it has so many benefits. It's verbal/nonlinguistic communication that anyone can hear. One of my favorite uses of nonverbal communication was in the movie NOPE where scenes with the alien swallowing people were intercut with people screaming. The use of this screaming was equal parts screams of terror and screams of joy from things like a rollercoaster. Laughter can be used in certain contexts as it can make the crazed serial killer more creepy or create tension in a room when the one of the characters knows the other is lying knows but the other is just laughing because its what the situation is required. Laughter can be even more tragic like in Joker as he has a condition that forces him to laugh painfully.

We can learn a whole lot about humans by observing babies. Why do they cry tears and laugh? It's strong, basic emotions. It's evolutionary for caring, protecting, understanding, liking, bonding and connecting.

Laughter and humor definitely lightens the mood. But why? I guess biologically we need laughter and possibly it's because it has been such an important part of comradery and being kept "in" the group that allowed for group survival. Definitely see the need to be included in everyone, esp kids growing up. Kids will follow along what's cool to satisfy the desperate need to be included. I got excluded a lot so I learned to appreciate much more tangible values like equal rights as one example (such tangible values are easily discarded or pushed down in order to fit in). I guess laughter must have come before language. We could fit in by laughing long before we could communicate with words.
