I heard it was a thing to sleep deprive the kids on here. . .which would explain A LOT

    Also. . . You got a car in HIGH-SCHOOL!? I bought my own when i was 20!

This started right before I turned 16 🤦🏻‍♀️ We were lucky to get pizza and a sleepover, yet this set me up for totally unrealistic (albeit still significantly lowered) expectations of the mythical 16th birthday. It was literally the worst birthday I’d had til that point (plus no car) ☹️ F those rich bitches lol

I grew up blessed with a dad who had money. However, we are Maltese and if I EVER acted like this my dad would have punched me in the face. I did love these shows back in the day. 😅😂😅😂 my father always told me don't tell anyone what you have. Keep our shit quiet. Lol.

I remember watching this I think they took a page from this for My Big Fat Gypsy Wedding. TLC was the “ the learning channel “when I grew up. It’s 🤯 now

These people 100% did not have $100,000 car money let alone Beyonce $$. That house and the furniture in it is not giving millionaire vibes. Also, were these people sponsored by Lacoste? I always wondered how real this show was and if they really spent as much money on the parties as they claimed they did, because most of the time it didn't seem like it. Regardless, this channel is amazing and my 39 yo ass is here for all the late 90's/early aughts nostalgia and roasting!

I am a bit older than y’all and “Sweet Sixteen” wasn’t even a thing in my hometown but getting your first car was
a HUUUUUGE deal and I was just as eager about getting one that looked cool parked in our High School Parking lot 🙄🤦🏻‍♀️🤭. My father had been thinking about selling his ‘69 Triumph Spitfire the year before I turned 16 and I had casually (but inwardly dying with anticipatory bated breath) mentioned during an opportune moment on a drive home from tennis practice one beautiful afternoon, “you know dad- I was thinking…why don’t you just save some dinero and keep this thing in the family..
I’d be cool with taking it off your hands.”
🤭 let’s just say that as amazingly awesome as my beloved late father was- this didn’t fly as I had believed and hoped. The biggest reason he said was the no seatbelts but he admitted to having nightmares of me showboating around town with the top down…but he promised he’d be fair to compromise on some things, “Do you really think, Peanut, I don’t remember what it’s like to be your age??”
So after I turned 17- (1995) and on an afternoon much like the one I thought I had been being reasonable with him, my dad showed up after tennis practice in a 1985 light beige Mazda Rx-7….he had come through with flying colors (or lack of- since red was off the charts when looking at insurance premiums for a first time teenage driver!!) I miss that car but would give all I am blessed with today to have even a day with the man I most loved….🤍🕯️💚

In hindsight, some of these kids were probably real brats, but they were also literal teenagers exhausted from being put in front of a film crew for hours and hours.

If it makes anyone feel better i had the sagging van roof in my mid to late 20s. It was an old grand caravan. Automatic windows… humble brag jk. But i lived in texas and drove this van for 3+ yesrs through texas summers with no AC. The last year i drove it the radiator was cracked and i worked freelance all over the dallas/ft worth metroplex driving through many 6 lane highways intersecting with each other through multiple cities with a cracked radiator through morning and afternoon rush hours. I had to time out when to pull over and fill my radiator like twice each way. I drove it into the ground then bought a nice honda civic. Then less than a month after i paid it off… someone rear-ended me going 60 mph while i was at a full stop. Totaled it.

There’s a great episode of South Park, where Satan throws himself super sweet 16 party and Saddam gifts him an accura cake and he loses his mind cause it’s not the car cake he wanted😂😂 they also mention Diddy a lot in the episode

My first car was a purple 1993 Saturn SC2. Didn’t have heat so when it rained the windows wouldn’t defrost (my dad eventually fixed it before winter hit). It had some damage to the body. Was it a nice car? No. But I didn’t pay for it and it got me to work and back for a year or two before it started having major issues and it was excellent on gas. It had a sunroof and pop up headlights which I thought were really cool at the time 🤣
