    All media is divisive media because it’s meant to say stational, lies, and draw lines in the sand and tell people to pick a side

    There is no such thing as real media

    One thing that really bothers me about opinions on the Internet now somebody who doesn’t really care about either side has basically destroyed their mental psyche fighting with the right and left because I stand in the middle. I always have I have never picked one side or the other.

    But I have observed people clearly sticking to one side and not budging from their ideologies
    Just because some idiot has an opinion if nobody had opinions, every better world and I think the goal is to make somebody so exhausted that nobody wants to have opinions because I know for a fact I don’t want to have opinions anymore. I don’t want to be a mindless stupid robot that I can’t not have opinions

    Not just dumb peoples opinions. Every single opinion from every single person is stupid because of the opinions they are why we are divided as humans if we didn’t have opinions, we would be free, I know for a fact I would be better if I just shut up, sat down and be quiet stop having opinions I’d be having a successful life probably halfway through my career or just starting my permanent career with my own house and all that but now I’m living a fucking pathetic life for my parents basement absolutely nothing to my name off because I asked too many questions

    Listening to the other side is absolutely vital and should no opinion should be out right banned. That being said, we must not act as if all opinions deserve equal platform, or else we risk perpetuating incorrect ideas that may cause harm. My go to example of this in action is how climate change is presented in the media.

    You'll have someone who is a reputable climate scientist who has just worked with their team on yet another study showing climate change is real. But at the same time, they'll be paired up with a climate change denier who will try to prove the scientist wrong, and usually fail miserably. But despite the fact that the person with no background in climate science has just lost the argument, this interaction will create more climate change deniers. By even bringing the two together in the first place, it is implied that either stance is equally valid (when they clearly are not), and that it's up to the viewer to decide who they trust more.

    On less scientific issues this can get a little more complex, however I think we can all agree that in those scenarios, those calling for violence, especially against already marginalised groups, should not be given the same platform (at least I hope we can agree with that).

    Pretty much what I'm saying is listen to both sides, but don't pretend that merely having an opinion gives a person any credibility (hell even ignore or disagree with me, I've done nothing to show you my credibility and this is after all just my point of view)

    You don't need to listen to stupid, wrong, and ridiculous opinions. Listening means to take seriously, consider, and accept. You can choose to ignore the opinion if they sound ridiculous and mind numbing. Don't listen to everything they hear. Don't respect opinions that are wrong, ridiculous, and illogical.

    I find it mesmerizing how everybody thinks they're not that person. "I am a wolf and all others are sheep" but we're all sheep to different things. We all think we're smarter than most and we're the exception to the "people are ignorant sheep" rule we hear everyday. Nobody wants to think they are a sheep that blindly follows the media but none of us are immune to propaganda.

    I remember hearing Christopher Hitchens say once, that we ought to engage with our rivals even if they are spouting long dead ideas just to ensure we remember how to argue for the present.

    I've been struggling with this myself since I've had to disown myself from my older brother, who has been obsessed with Q-Anon theories. It wasn't just his theories that were intolerable, it was his literal intolerance towards anyone who didn't think like him. He'd often go on rants towards our family members, even my grandparents, despite me advising him not to because it would only alienate him from everyone else. So far he is proving me correct.

    I've tried good-faith attempts to get him out of the house to go around the parks and the beaches, but the only thing he can talk about is Q-Anon stuff, crypto currencies, and the great reset. I've tried telling him that I don't want to talk about it, or any political stuff (I'm kind of sick of it), but he takes the far-left position of saying that "everything is political".

    So yeah, as cruel as it sounds I'm not seeing my older brother anymore. I shouldn't be burdened with seeing someone who makes me feel so exhausted that I have to take a nap when I make it home.

    With the rise of the internet and all the hosts of problems it brings, social media and propaganda, I wonder what the views of these philosophers would look like today?

    Or…. Or we could adopt a position of hard epistemological nihilism and simply state that all statements are equally wrong. Where we put a statement such as "The sky is blue" next to a statement such as "The sky is made of golden raisins" and agree that, due to the limitations of our perceptions and faculties as human beings, neither can claim any significant correlation to the actual truth of reality over the other.

    i love the 10-15min videos youve done before and id love to see more of them since these bite sise are really too short for my taste ive listened to the podcast but sometimes that feels too long but nontheless love the channel and keep up the great work ✌️

    I think the world would be better if through some divine force or global agreement we decided to stop the advancement of the internet the second before social media was invented. The internet allows you to find anything you want to see, including any number of other people who will validate nonsensical or anti-social beliefs. Just like you don’t have to look at opinions you don’t like, they don’t have to look at anything that attempts to prove them wrong.

    Once they form a self-validating community, it’s over. You ain’t never getting them back. And it’s only gonna get worse from here.
