The History of U.S. Intelligence Leaks

Weird History | October 8, 2025

Depending on who’s doing the talking, those who have given away intelligence about the military and security infrastructure of the United States have been called spies, heroes, and traitors.
But knowing the historical contexts around such leaks can help us understand why the leakers did what they did, and whether or not it was worth it.

Your report on Snowden sounds like it was written by the government or with governmental approval. Edward Snowden is an American hero. He is a champion of the American people. He never intended to end up stuck in Russia. He hoped to flee to South America. He held out a long time before determining citizenship in Russia was the only realistic course of action left for him. Trump should have pardoned him. If nothing else, it would have been the best single digit salute to the establishment.

Russia would be pissed? RIGHT…like the US wanted to give him a medal, and throw him a stagg party. He would have been pushing daises like Aaron Swartz if the US had been able to catch him. They won't be satisfied until Assange is dead, as well. All governments are corrupt, as they all have seats at the "Power game poker table, in the back room"… It's always been that way, and everyone knows it… KUDOS to Snowden…

Bet Snowden is hating being in Russia with the war on and all, unless everything he has done was a prelude to his current role as a mole there

Daniel Ellsberg (who died a few weeks ago), Chelsea Manning, and Edward Snowden are AMERICAN PATRIOTS. They are national treasures who were anything but spies or traitors. If you don't understand that, for your own sake, look into it. When our government and our military do unethical and sometimes barbaric acts (in our name), we damn well ought to know about it. Obama fell far short of what he could've done to improve this country, but one of the acts he got right was to commute Manning's sentence. She experienced a great deal of violence and other forms of mistreatment while in prison and I'm grateful she is free. Question most of what you see and hear on mainstream media (MSNBC, FOX, CNN, Glenn Beck, Tucker Carlson, Rachel Maddow, etc.)

Bradley Manning and Snowden should have been treated like the Rosenbergs. Funny he dumped all that info and it didn't have any real impact. Good punishment is Snowden gets to live in Russia and will never see US soil again.

When people claim they’re patriots and then praise low level contractors who leak thousands of US documents and then flee to Russia ☠️

Snowden is a traitor. He’s not a whistleblower, unless you want to declare the Rosenbergs and the Walkers as whistleblowers. We need to stop celebrating this little treasonous punk.

Did I miss John Walker? He disclosed our submarine program to the soviets. So much info that the soviets became on par with the US Navy and the newest Soviet subs were called by the US the "Walker Class" as it wouldn't have existed without him.

You forgot the most recent addition to the list, Traitor don. Pretty sure he's done the most damage by far and we don't know the extent of it yet. I wonder how the Chinese found all those spys in 2018.

I don't think the FSB is interested in hiring Snowden.
Not because he's a high risk for whistle blowing, but because he is actually competent.

So they all were charged with the espionage act? That means they all have one thing in common. If they were president of the U.S.? They would of been fine.🤔😏
