Well, Todd, I loved the song so much that I was one of the 500k+ people who actually bought the album on CD. That being said, I don't remember playing anything else on the album but it (ooops). I always did love this song, though and, guess what: I still do.

"It's got that something," all right, but it succeeds because of itself, not in spite of it. It's still insanely catchy and I basically get the message of it, so bite me on my left asscheek, Todd. 😝 HAPPINESS!! 🌈

Is it just me or do "Absolutely" and "If I am" sound like they're both from entirely different eras despite being consecutive singles on the same album? "Absolutely" makes them sound like obvious Barenaked Ladies wannabes, but "If I am" sounds more like something you'd hear around 2008 or 09, just before rock music became "passé"!

3:22 “…and since these albums were recorded in the 90s, all their stuff sounds like it could play in the background of Party of Five.” As someone who was a religious viewer of Party of Five back in the day and still owns the soundtrack CD, I laughed way too hard at that line.

I can say from experience that this song slaps when you're a 12-14 year-old girl and you're feeling sad, but you still want a cute boy to find you pretty and fascinating. That was as deep as it ever went for me, but it was obviously enough because I had like 5 friends who made this the default song on their myspace pages in middle school… and like 3 more of them had "Just the Girl" by The Click Five so it was clearly a winning recipe back then…

The "girl" sounds like a Greek myth.
Persoggyknees wept for days, causing untold destruction and loss of life. Zeus was so distraught that he saved a bunch of women (and then banged them).

The after-market stereo in my old car back in the day would automatically start playing the first song on your iPod or whatever whenever you connected it. For me that just happened to be "Absolutely (Story of a Girl)". So that opening line is permanently etched into my brain. My wife absolutely hates the song just because the stereo auto-playing the first line before we could switch to a playlist irritated her to no end 😀

Started trashing this song and i thought "i'll hear him out cuz I feel kinda the same but I also love this song". then you start praising it. Now I'm all in. I kinda feel the same but I will never hate on this song cuz it's been around for so much of my life. It always seems to come back during big points in my life. That being said I remember getting the whole album… I couldn't even tell you another song by them.

This song makes me feel like I'm at a mall in Southern California, too nervous to ask my crush to the prom. And I'm not even American

Came back here after working a gig where the guy from ninedays performed and can say he is a very nice guy. Also fun fact that follow-up single is apparently the song he wanted to be a hit

I took it as she's a weepy and dramatic baby about basically anything and everything. Her clothes not looking as good as she thought. Her hair is pissing her off…her complaints are endless. But when she smiles, damn I love that annoying woman.

This song got a ton of play on my iPod (I think it was one of the free songs they gave away back in the day, when they gave away a few songs every week or month or whatever it was?) let me tell you, it definitely spoke to the severely depressed girl of the early aughties…..

I went to Wantagh high school on LI from 98-2002, this song was written about one of our teachers. I never had her as a teacher but everyone in school talked about it, I believe she was the lead singer's fiancé at the time. So she was like the coolest teacher ever because not only was her partner's band on the radio and MTV, she was literally the subject of their big song. I had totally forgotten about that until the video popped up

i came to look this video up after seeing a video of the lead singer playing the song acoustic for his students, talking about how shitty being a touring band was for them. the students clearly like and respect him, since they didn’t completely tear him to shreds. it was utterly charming.
