the evolution of the fangirl.
today we answer the age old question: should women have hobbies?
by looking at the history of fangirls from palaeolithic to modern day. does fangirling have a negative impact on your social development, or is it the sole force driving progress in our society?

As a man, only men should should have hobbies and all women should be replaced by really hot anthropromorphic rats, who are also hot robots and follows all of our commands (/s) .

I'm really excited to see what the future holds for our cultures. If nothing else, it promises to be friggin wild.
I in particular hope that women properly reclaim safe spaces to just be people without expectations of them based on their sex. We're certainly a long way off from that, but it's been worse.

I literally have no idea how would I be nowadays without Superman in my life. Not only because the character itself is a beacon of hope, but the community is great as well! ā¤

The "modern fangirl" started around the time The Beetles were gaining popularity because that was the first time women were allowed to be openly horny over someone.

Disagree on the Taylor swift stuff. It is very important not to like Taylor Swift because it's hilarious when her fan girls demand that you do in protest.

fangirling saved my life. back in late 2019, i was in 8th grade, and i had applied to go to this arts school, specifically for creative writing. they had a 2-part "audition" process and i had almost made it in, i was past the first cutoff, and then, well, i didn't make it past the second part, i had debilitating generalized anxiety and was completely unmedicated at the time. so, i ended up going to the same shitty school as all my middle school classmates, and at first, i was sad, then i was just angry. i knew that i had to do something with that anger, so i channeled all of it into writing fanfics on ao3 out of spite against the arts high school that had rejected me. i have a lot of feelings, and many, many fandoms that i am in, and it was during the depths, THE TRENCHES, of the pandemic for fuck's sake, i had all the time in the world. i think me being unmedicated also had a lot to do with the insane, hilarious crackfic ideas i'd had at the time, but i digress, writing fanfics, niche as they were, was part of what got me through high school. i had an awful time, but writing was always something that kept me going. — now it's been, like, almost 6-7 years (i do not claim to be good at math, but i'm almost 20) since then and i haven't written anything in awhile. i fear i may have lost my whimsy along the way, and i don't know how to get it back. maybe it's my medications, i'm not sure, but i won't stop taking them just to write fanfics again, it took so long to finally find the right ones…however, my fanfic writing days will always be a part of me, and i still have some ideas that i would like to execute in writing, but i just haven't gotten around to them yet.

I think the difference to me between having a hobby and being a "fangirl" is that fangirls (and boys) primarily engage with their hobby through consumption, they prop up someone else, rather than participating in the hobby and the culture.

To be fair…tons of the "female" books written today are degenerate nonsense that the same people that read it shit on men for almost nothing constantly. Being obsessed is bad… enjoying something within reason is decent and fine
