The proper way to do the Quattar would be to lay a drainage pipe along the depressions floor and connecting it to an outflow tunnel connected to the Mediteranian. This would continually pump out saline water to the deep med where high salinity bottom water flows already exist thus allowing a second tunnel to continually bring in surface low salinity water from the Mediteranian.

Morsi being muslim brotherhood it was pretty obvious nothing good would happen. They were the ones who murdered Pres Sadat in 1981, causing Mubarak to take over. Each dictator is worse than the last. I wonder if China is funding this massive project. And where is the water coming from for those giant crop circles?? Take from the Nile you reduce the Delta. Take from the Lake it will shrink. The aquifer, the ground will sink as the water is not replaced. Do they have Desal plants?? Why not?? Should have done this closer to the coast. The Sahara will always win.

Most if not all North African countries are doing similar things, Algeria has been creating circle farm land in the desert for many years…. This isnt new, its a method, countries can become more self sustainable, even in europe and the west ; farming practices are changing just in different ways due to soil health deteriation……which could and probably would lead to desertification seen in Africa

Joseph, the Hebrew slave exalted to 2nd under Pharoah had built a large reservoir of the Nile River to capture overflow to be carefully released over time to avoid flooding of the riverbank fields which caused the infamous 7 years famine. It was flooding which is worse than draught. The city of Faiyum is there today because sediments have filled in.

How about the desert turtles that they shipped in the desert to help terraform it for a more long term solution. They dig burrows that help capture rain.

They have to try. It is good that they are trying. I think they could be doing it better but then again I could be doing a better job. Personally I think they should start with an inland sea that is completely under the control for fish farming and raises the general humidity in the area. That's going to salt a lot of crap but when that inland sea is full then they'll know where to put their freshwater resources.
