Two months ago, I got to return to Cheetah Conservation Fund — an unbelievable organization in Namibia that’s dedicated to saving the cheetah.     I have to be honest and say I am hideously jealous of the fact that you got to do this, I really am intrigued about how you got there and just got some of the opportunities you've had in general. Regardless though, I think it's really cool that this place exists and I think it's really cool that your platform brings attention to it.

    So awesome for you to make full circle.
    My wife got to help a friend doing research at Africat, another rescue/research facility in Namibia.
    They met hyena and pangolin there, as well. Color me jealous.

    I've got a tattoo of Seekoie, one of my favorite penguins from my days volunteering in the penguin exhibit at the Monterey Bay Aquarium.

    Last summer my kids went there and took a picture of him to send to me (they can live into their 30's in captivity). I totally lost it.

    Side note: there are South African Blackfoot colonies in Namibia as well, though my buddies never lived there.

    Is teaching cheetahs to hunt not possible, like meat attached to a line or letting in animals meant for slaughter or something? I presume they are not taught to fear humans because that would require using cattle prob or something like that.

    Those 2 young male cheetahs were the cutest thing ever!
    What a fantastic place and mission!
    Its super cool to see someone so excited about their work. I'm sure that it doesn't seem right to use the word "work" no matter how much effort you are putting in each day?
    I remember feeling the same way when I had my own little design/build company. Boy, do I miss absolutely everything about it!

    Excellent video. You brought a happy tear to the eye of this 55 year old British dude. I missed out on the chance to visit a similar cheetah reserve in South Africa because of the Covid outbreak, where I was due to write a book about my visit and the plight of the cheetah. I hope to regain that opportunity in the next few years. Love your work, keep doing what you do. Excellent stuff.

    that whole bit about herding vs guarding dogs in relation to predatory instincts was really eye-opening. crazy because it feels like a common sense thing when you think about cat behavior

    lindsay if you're ever wanting to look into covering wolf conservation… please check out the colorado wolf and wildlife center!!! an educator like you with experience and connections like this, particularly with human-wildlife conflict management and supporting ranchers in protecting their livestock while reducing the use of force, is badly needed right now with our ongoing wolf reintroduction program. the cwwc is a major advocate for the program and is a great place all around, also helping look after mexican gray wolves, red wolves, swift foxes (our only native fox species), red foxes, black footed ferrets, and coyotes :] they do work both in helping with reintroductions, and taking care of surrendered or illegal pets or otherwise unreleaseable canids. i highly recommend them and would love to hear you talk about wolf conservation!!

    "It really feels like…. the biggest accomplishment of my life." THAT WE KNOW OF.
    This was one of my favorites of your videos. The way they solve so may problems – I did not expect to see so many dogs in a cheetah video, but it's such an important part of the solution that I'm glad we did.
    And I could tell Gian was into it, too, just by the editing. The rock music over the puppies was a nice touch. 😀 Combined with the sentimental music, it seems this was important to him as well.

    Please don't go back to the USA. Southern Africa would appreciate you more and you already love it. Lots of wildlife to look after. Maybe next you could visit Onderstepoort in South Africa where all our vets train.

    Seeing this video was so amazing, but also really difficult. I lived and worked in Namibia for 2 years and I could feel the wind in my hair and sun (and sand) on my skin when you were on the back of the bakkie. I feel like I can still smell the veld (good and the bad). I've been camping at Waterburg with friends, and gotten lost in that MASSIVE Spar at Otjiwarongo. I miss it so much, and in the end where you said it felt like returning home–I really feel it. This video was awesome. I'm so glad to see someone who loves Namibia so much, promoting some of the awesome work going on there.
    Laurie mentioned it a bit at the end, but conservation work in Namibia is truly amazing. I worked in secondary education while I was there, at one of the state schools out in the bush, so I never got the up-close experience with animals that weren't on the farms. Thankfully, cheetahs weren't an issue in our area, with our farmers being more worried about baboons than cats of any kind. I was wondering, do you think you might do a video on some of the extensive efforts around Namibia (and in other parts of Africa) to save the wildlife there? In addition to cheetahs, I also remember very successful programs in protecting elephants and rhinos as well!

    I really like how the CCF took on the problem of farmers killing cheetahs, they identified the root of the problem in a scientific way and came up with a solution that is not only affordable but also benefits both cheetahs and farmers.

    Damn. What an incredible video Lindsay. So much of this video was emotional in such a beautiful way. Seeing how much Koya and this place means to you as a whole, seeing how much the effort means to the leader and the other people putting their whole selves into it and seeing the incredible difference it has made and continue to makes. In an age of negativity, hate, division and war, this is the sort of thing that needs to take the spotlight. Good people, doing good things for no other reason than to inflict a positive change. Bravo to everyone involved.

    maybe people should just stop raising and killing animals to eat and then we wouldn't have problems with Farmers killing cheetahs because cheetahs don't want to eat vegetables but humans can thrive on eating vegetables…. just saying…. we would also reduce our need for agricultural land up to 75% if we switched to only eating plants…. we would also stop using so much water and polluting so much water through animal agriculture…. not to mention that we do not need to kill billions of animals a year!

    go vegan and save the world!

    i started sobbing soon after starting this video. i want these animals to stay with us forever. thank you for this video, even though i’m having a hard time watching it hahaha
