Responding To My Song Being Used In Awful Commercials.
Synchronisation. This is what today’s episode all about – it’s a longer episode today as I try and explain to those of you who may not be familiar with this term, what it’s all about. To showcase what I mean I’m going to react to some situations where my song was used in commercials, TV shows and film and how it feels when that happens.

Yikes, no one should cover the darkness. It's just one of those bands that is up there with the greats. Seems sacriligius!

You remind me of my dad when we would drive by these big buildings and he'd say "I built the roofs on those buildings!" So sweet.

You like Shane’s version because he’s singing your song. But let’s be honest he’s barely hanging on and where’s the meaning of the song in the performance. The meaning of the song is unrelenting positivity in a beautiful world we all want to live in. It’s a euphoria of intense innocence and a beautiful outlook. Probably the rarest kind of song. Not surprised the judges don’t get it at all too. That song means a lot to people who live in the real world of pain and struggle, where any relief is a gift, and this song is a gift. Your version that is.

Justin, I liked the darkness and the groovey tunes, but watching this made me think you are a little bit full of yourself – inflated ego. Just appreciate that people and agencies want to use your tune. You are no god or legend, because those that are and remain legends still the end of time are real rock n rollers like Ozzy.

The issue with how the collection societies work, whether you’re signed to a publisher or copyright control is the sampling (or lack of sampling) process for smaller artists. How Justin describes the collective pot and the divvying up process is exactly how it works other than when direct notifications of plays have been made. I.e you get played on Radio 1, it’s logged and you get a specific payment for it. The problem with the general pot is you can be quite big in an underground scene, getting your music played all over the world in clubs, on radio and all the rest of it and you don’t make a penny because all of the collective pot mostly goes to the artists that have had major logging take place. I’ve always been underground but still managed to get a record in the U.K. top 40 but the publishing off it was negligible even though it was being played on the likes of Kiss etc daily.

Insane artists have to fight and pay millions to keep rights to their music. Keep them from uncreative useless execs who contribute nothing yet take all the profits

Justin I absolutely love your guitar tone. The solo tone has a bit of hair to it that I cant quite figure out what you did. Kinda sounds like a partially engaged wah. Its a fantastic solo tone! Just found The Darkness recently. Bought Permission to Land. Holding my Own really gets me. Great songs.

You get the slagging because you had the bollocks to revitalise a sound and a look. One that goes in the opposite direction to what wankers like Louis Walsh try to push on us. It’s really a backhanded compliment. By the way Justin, Rock Stars piss all over movie stars. Most people can knock out a bit of acting, very few people can play an instrument and sing in front of a massive crowd. Movie stars suck balls compared to Rock Stars. 😊❤

16:40 yeah I don’t think it’s the humour, it’s misogyny. You’re not afraid of a catsuit, long hair or a high note – all things associated with femininity and it scares people. But I’m sure you knew that even when you asked. 🙃

It doesn’t surprise me that a lot of people wouldn’t have liked this song. And of course, it was supposed to be silly, like the video.
I remember thinking it was kind of cool, almost like 80s metal—but also a parody of it… with a little Pop, added.
I never took the band seriously, and maybe that was their point. Kind of Spinal Tap’ish. I really haven’t heard anything from them since this song came out, early 90s?
I think around the same time as Queens of the Stone Age. To me, bands you kinda lump together from that era—if you never really listened. I still get the two mixed up.
I’ll have to give him another chance. I didn’t realize Justin was such an accomplished musician. I watch these videos here periodically. Really good guitar player for a singer, that’s for sure. Or maybe he plays guitar in his band too. 🤘🏻🎸🔥😊

The song blew me away decades ago and still does today. No Cover comes close to the original, especially not to Justin's attitude. Still, it's amusing to see how others fail miserably to it 🤣🤣
