Special Edition: Birthday Episode with Leonard Peltier

Native News Online | September 29, 2025

Join us for a powerful special edition honoring Leonard Peltier on his birthday. For the first time in nearly five decades,

Leonard Peltier, a citizen of the Turtle Mountain Band of Chippewa Indians, is celebrating a birthday outside of prison.
Convicted in 1977 and sentenced to two consecutive life terms for the deaths of two FBI agents during a 1975 shootout on the Pine Ridge Reservation, Peltier’s case has become one of the most debated in American legal history.
On his final day in office, President Joe Biden granted Peltier a presidential commutation, leading to his release on February 18, 2025.
Now confined to his home on the Turtle Mountain Reservation, Leonard Peltier joins us on Native Bidaské for this special edition episode as we celebrate his birthday together.

👉 Don’t miss this historic conversation and moment of reflection.

I heard him talk about this on Double Down News and to me it is obvious that the powers that be in the US wanted to keep him in prision because he was an activist for the Indian Nstion whose lands were stolen from them by settlers. From an Irish person.

Reservations under the law, at least that is what I understand, are sovereign. They have their own courts etc. not knowing the details, it sounds like the fbi invaded a sovereign Native land without the proper documents.
