What It’s Like To Be Amish

Weird History | September 27, 2025

What with being such a private, insular community, many people are curious about the Amish lifestyle and beliefs system. Leaving the Amish faith is extremely hard on any individual who decides to become “English” (the Amish term for everyone who isn’t Amish), but, fortunately, ex-Amish stories have provided us with a fascinating glimpse into the Amish way of life. To put it simply, people living in mainstream America would consider Amish laws and punishments to be harsh, but it’s important to note that not all Amish follow the same rules.

To respond to what you said at 0:29 . . . You should talk about the real history of how the public schools system was created and why they created them. And don't worry about people thinking it's a conspiracy theory because all the documentation is still around so you can bring receipts to back it up.

Let everyone know that the life they are living is why it is, because a bunch of rich people had a plan. The way of life today was created by a bunch of manipulative rich people who wanted to own everything and have the common people work for them, ultimately getting their paychecks and then having to turn around and buy things and basically handing their paychecks right back to the top investment companies aka shareholders. That's slavery disguised as "The American dream"

What a load of garbage. One of our former vendors in Ohio were Amish. They had a completely modern factory. The owner drove a brand new $80,000 truck and had a modern smart phone. Oh he dressed Amish but definitely didn't live that way. And I know for a fact that a lot of others are like that, too. They dress Amish but live with all kinds of modern things just like the rest of us. Amish in clothing only.

Damn! Being a muslim didn't know that there are some common things in Amish people and the Islamic community. Is Islam it is prohibited from having images or portraits of any human living or dead, not even toys or so that may have face of them so similar to us they are that like Amish men are required to not have their moustache but beards so it is in Islam too. I wonder how there are so many commonalities in different religions. And being a muslim, I really do respect Amish people as a community.
